Best camera around?

I've had a Nikon Coolpix 5000 for a while now. Got it for well over £1,000 (something like $2,300 Canadian dollars)-with some extra stuff thrown in. I love the camera, it's gret, but my mum is now thinking of getting another one.

Therefore my question is this...is the Coolpix 5000 still pretty good or is it far outstripped by a lot of other cameras around? I don't doubt that there are a fair few cameras out there that are better than the 5000, but I'm only looking at the ones that are MUCH better...if a camera is only better by 1 megapixel...not interested.

Any advice? Thanks in advance! *th-up*

The Coolpix 5000 seems like a great camera from what I've read and heard. I don't think it's worth trading it in unless you really need something far superior. And thus very expensive.

Canon 1DS with 11 million mpxls

This camera despite all the megapixels has some of the best lens technology available. Lens quality is just as important if not more than how many megapixels it has.
