I am looking into an exhaust, but can't decide which one to get. I really love the active autowerk one. What do you guys think??

Apparently the best one out there, but do you really want to pay a small fortune? I know the owner Brullen, and he'll custom make anyone a cat back system with any tip/muffler combo you want in one day for about $850 tax-in. Completely stainless and with any tone you request (loud or quiet).

Damn! $850 is too steep for just an exhaust for me. I want something at the most $600. Well, because i cancelled my angel eye order, i thought i would make up for it with a diff mod.:) Thanks though.

Well if you do an exhaust system with a huge tip i'm sure you could be sucking alot of the sh!t that you are originally sending out back in, which would result in a loss of horse power I think

I'd say go with Randy's idea, Brullen. For $850 catback exhaust system, that's pretty good!

My friend's A4 uses a brullen and it sounds very nice after removing the resonators, except he got his catback exhaust system for a little bit over $1000.

AA is pretty good, but I just prefer Brullen, mainly b/c it sounds similar to the B&B Tri Flow on the E36's. Then again, I have a friend who has a Triflow system on his 330i. It sounds really nice, except it doesn't sound as deep and broken as it does on the E36's, which I like :P

The new UUC Twin Silencer really grabs my attention. Heard very good comments from e46fanatics. *th-up*

I'm also waiting for the Rogue Engineering one. It looks similar to the UUC one.

I'll wait until it becomes avaiable then I'll decide which one to get.

Whoa, is that in US dollar or Cdn dollar? Cuz if that's in Cdn dollar, that's pretty darn cheap!

I would say get a Supersprint, great bulid quality fit and finish and dyno proven power, but if you only getting a backbox your not going to gain much.

Rob you can definitly lose power from an exhaust and more so with a N/A car as against forced induction. But once again not really with a back box unless it is very restrictive.
It's all about exhaust tuning and the tuning of the exhaust pulses as the come out the the headers.
It gets quite technical and I won't go it to it here but I know of a good site that explain all this for the M3 anyway.

I nearly bought a full Scorpion exhaust but was warned off It because they didn't used the balance pipe(x pipe) in thge centre section and this strangled the engine at about 5k rpm and again at about 6K rpm. The E30 M3 that this exhaust was fitted towould go over 130 mph and all because of the exhaust. They fitted a Supersprint with has the balance pipe and the car would hit 150mph and no choking the engine.

I heard SUPERSPRINT is absolute garbage. Overpriced (remember... shipping, taxes, duty, exchange etc...) and worst of all not even stainless! Crap.

Supersprint are one of the oldest and most respected exhaust manufacturer. They have been going since 1955 so they must be pretty good at what the do to survive that long.

All there exhausts are dyno tested for performance they post some of there plots on their site, and if you ever get to look at one the quality is very very high.
They do make 100% Stainless exhaust as well as the normal type that I have that isn't 100% stainless as some of it is steel but there are reasons for this. All the inlet tubing muffler core, wadding and end plates and tail pipes are stainless, but the outside of the mufflers aren't as they are aluminiumized steel. This is for a better sound to the exaust note as well as it will take the knocks alot better than a stainless one as they are made from very thin material as it's not going to rust.
They also give you a full 3 year no quibble warrenty, so if they were that bad I'm sure that they wouldn't do this.
Everyone I have spoke to about there's loves it and highly recommend them as do it now :)

Bliss, no clue on Rogue's pricing yet but I bet it would be very close to or even cheaper than UUC's, as in the case of their short shifter.

Thanks cyc. It really looks like people are liking it. I got to find out how loud it is though, I don't like loud exhausts too much. Just gotta wait and find out i guess.:)

THIS IS AN UN-BIASED OPINION....

SUPERSPRINT IS ABSOLUTE CRAP!!!!!!!

My friend had one on his car, hated it... too quiet and when it started rusting out after 5 months of owning it, he asked me to get rid of it. I tried to sell it (rust removed and re-painted) but had a hard time because no one wanted the piece of shit. He finally took a major loss and I sold it for the price of clear markers.

Rob,

How could you compare it to anything if you haven't tried anything else? I've been through so many exhausts and know so many people, I can afford to make a statement like that.

Bye.

Mufflers are meant to go where ever the car goes... that includes winter driving Rob, not GARAGE storage. no wonder you Superstink muffler is still intact! Brullen makes cat back systems too (which I'm sure you didn't have) so compare apple to apples.

uh hum, let me take a stand in this.haha. Though i did not own a supersprint exhaust ever. A few of my friends had one, and yes they did rust out.

M3Pilot
12-23-2001, 03:20 PM
Of course it will rust if it's not a full stainless system. But these systems are made of much thicker material that stainless ones and it would take a very long time to rust through.
I know people who have had them for 5 years and there still going. I know what your going to say that a stainless exhaust will last for ever.
So answer me this how many other manufacturers show the dyno plots for there exhaust on ther sites cos i can't think of any!

I stick by what I have said that Supersprint are about the oldest and one of the best exhaust makers there are, and the only ones who make one for my car that you get better performance from.
They are the best exhaust for an E30 M3 short of getting a custom one made and dyno tested to make sure that you was getting more power which would be very expensive indeed.

i have a supersprint and i love it, no rust at all and no i dont keep my car in a garageand drive it in all weather, i even deliver pizza in it. My exaust was only 385 from bmp and the i exaust is only about 540 cat back usd from bmpd. There great if you dont want a loud exaust
