Hey guys!

A co-worker of mine wants to race his Ford Escort GT (mildly modded) against my 97 328is. (Both cars are stick).

To me, this sounds like a stupid question to be asking but I've been for a ride in his Escort and it's fairly quick. He's got an exhaust and CAI in terms of performance mods. He's taken me for a rip on the streets and on the highway. It pulls alright because it's so light.

My car doesn't have any performance mods, in fact it may be a little slower because of the 19s I have on... but they don't weight much more than the stock 16s....

What are the numbers for an Escort GT?

... What do you guys think??? What kind of chance do I have?

Thanks,
Raf

But how do you think your 328 would do against it?

Anyone else?

Thanks,

Raf

It's always hard to tell in the passenger seat.
I'm not sure... It's feels close.

Do you think my car stands a better chance on the streets or highway?

Thanks,

Raf

I think so too. I can't wait to race him as soon as I get my car back.

Should be able to beat him on the highway with ease. they are only quick because they are light

ya youve got way more horsepower so once you get up to 120+ youll rip away from him

Thanks guys!

Yeah, the highway is where my car shines.

Any idea how I might do if I were to drag him on the street??

Thanks again,

1991 Ford Escort GT 16.60 s 84.9 mph
a 328is should be about a second faster...

Thanks skillton!

Hehehe.... those numbers don't look to be in his favour. I think my 328 does the 1/4 mile in the 14s doesn't it?

I also heard dirty rims, add an extra 0.023 in the total coefficent of friction, which translates into 0.2s in a quarter mile. :D

funny thing is that you can buy a 1991 Ford escort GT for like $1500-$2000 today. Look in the autotrader.... :D

How much is your car SimmSimma ?

In Europe, these Ford escorts are amazing little cars, soem of them have cosworth engine, producing staggering hp numbers when turboe'd !

My 98 323is did the 1/4 mile at cayuga in 15.1!! And I have almost no mods...........i'm actually losing power with my intake. The only thing I have that would make a little bit of difference is my rear diff. That's it! 328's with a guy that knows how to drive should for SURE be hitting high 14's. I'm a good driver, but by no means a pro or anything, and I got my lil beater to do a 15.1, and that was WITH my heavy ass system, and my rims.
