HELP: Towing with an E36 BMW

Hi Guys,

I have a question for you. I am considering buying another E36 BMW (97 328ia - 4 door 3 series - 193hp) and I have a 97 seadoo GSX. I was curious if anyone knew about towing with this vehicle.

I have heard of the Da'Lan E36 hitch, but i dont know what the tongue weight rating of that unit is, the tongue weight of the seadoo is about 110lbs. I really just want to know if it has been done, or if it will damage the car. I dont want to tow the thing if its gonna ruin my tranny. I also dont want to take a risk of having the bmw run into the lake down the docking ramp, but thats a whole other ball game.

Any input would be GREAT!

I towed a 1500lb Uhaul trailer all the way across the country without a single problem whatsoever. I was quite impressed with how well my car did actually.

You shouldn't have any trouble with the 6-cylinder pulling a seadoo...it's only prolonged towing or towing heavy loads that really puts a number on the drive components. But if you occasionally tow something, and something that light, it's no problem.

You might have to worry if you use your 318ti!

BTW...what colour is your 318ti...I always see this lowered blue one with a big exhaust and really tinted windows running around scarborough...

What a co-incidence, I just made a trailer hitch last night for my E36 I post pics. I have a 98 GSX Limited, wanna go play sometime? As for towing problems you'll have no problem. I made a double trailer for me and my friends Limited's and I pulled them with a 1978 chevy chevette, if that pulled it your E36 will have no problem. Later man, Tom...

Sick man! How much would you charge to make me a hitch like that? Or would it be better to go and buy a Da Lan Hitch.

As for the 318ti, i dont have that anymore, oops, i forgot to switch my user details. Since then I went through an E46 328Ci and a 99 Civic SIR. SO thinking of trading the SIR for a 328ia, is this a good idea?

We go up to belwood lake with it, im in cambridge so driving north is a little to far.
