I was just wondering where was the (e34 i believe) 518 sold? England?

I saw one not so long back but didn't believe it until I popped the hood and saw the good ole m10 sitting under there in this HUGH 5 series hah, it looked so out of place.

Cheers for any info.

man they need small engines in europe gas is so expensive there
(*note* the polish plates on the bimmer :))my friend is in poland right now and i was complaining to him that yesterday i saw gas for 75.9 in burlington hes like thats nothing its 1.26 liter after conversion over in poland(on average). Imagine paying that much for fuel jeez, and you have to remember they earn a fraction of what we make over there and still afford that.

Not Polish plates - that's a Portugese plate.

PL = Poland
P=Portugal

Apparently, there is such a thing as a 725i as well...

But on the plus side, the 518i will have amazing weight distribution!

ya, my dad had a 1976-518 back home in the 80s, it was ok, it wasn't slow at all, he has super8 films of it:D:D, you know what super8 is, right?!! he also had a 520! a 320 and a 2002!

I thought M10's were 1.5L's? I don't think the E34 5 series was using the M10 in the 518. Even the E30 has the M42 in their 318's in the late '80s. It's probably using the M40 engine which was a detuned version of the M42 engine producing around 108HP.

Euro specs..

318i - 1.8L I4 M40 engines
318is - 1.8L I4 M42/M44 engines

it was identical to the 101 hp m10 motor in my e30 318i .. so i'm pretty sure it was an m10

i'm just saying the one I saw had a motor that looked exactly like the m10 in my 318i (from 87 with a 1766cc 101 hp) , and from the m40's i've seen they have this plastic manifold cover thing going on. I even had the cars side by side to compare them and could only find minor differences under the hood (visually).

Please educate yourselves!;) Engine designations table isn't all correct and alot is missing but model designations table is ok. Click the model link from model designations table to get (almost?)correct information about different engines used in that model.
