Why the anger ??? .... itll practialy be free since i have 3 turbo fords and 2 spare e30 chassis just sitting here at my house . Why not take the handling and style of the bimmer and mix it with the reliable power of the 2.3t motor ?

Just a question...What did the 2.3L Tubo Ford engine come out of?

The motor I am going to use came out of 1988 ford thunderbird turbo coupe , but the motor can be found in 1985-88 merkur xr4ti's , SVO mustangs , and all thunderbird turbo coupes

I would much rather stay true to bmw and have a M50 motor under my hood but I dont have the funds for such a project as of now

I dont care what anyone says, do it! It sounds like it'd be a load of fun to drive afterwards, and the maintenance would probably be cheaper.

(I've been dreaming of putting an SR20DET engine in my car if the current engine blows up on me. My mechanic swears he can install it for me for a couple thousand bucks as well...it's VERY tempting)

the sr20det is indeed an amazing motor ... but for a couple thousand dollars I would look the other way ... what can I say ... im a cheap ass :)

Hehe, and that couple thousand is just for installation, it's another 5 or 6 grand for the engine I bet :D

it's original! not a Bmw but it will make nice performance!
the 2.3L engine got a lot of torque ( 190lb) and a lot of HP to ( 190 also) it's better than de 2.2l turbo from a probe!
i'll have try a thunbird turbo coupe once... for a ford i's was a bomb. a littlie heavy. and it was a RWD!!!
and since , as you say, it will be nearly free, go go go!

Engine Specifications

2.3L 190 hp I4 3.8 140hp V6 5.0L 155hp V8

hp : 190 @ 5500 RPM 140 155

torque : 200 @ 2500 rpm 215 265

these a the 3 engine on old thunbird

the 2.3L his the best! damn 190 a 5500... it still have 181 pound of torque a 5500. these number come from Carpoint.com... so they can have error in it.. MSN aren't reliable. they said taht my M20 engine got 181 pound of torque,

well thos specs are close enought for government work :) my motor has never been dynoed in the Tbird , But some of the ppl on turboford.org , are making 240 hp and knocking on the 300lbs of torque to the wheels :) with the same setup as I so its gonna make for great fun :)

You guys are out of your minds. If you want a dodge buy a dodge if you want a ford buy a ford but don't demean the BMW heritage by putting odds and ends from other car. That is a slap to the face*no-no*

Tell that to T-Spec :D
I think swapping a different engine into a bimmer is fine, just as long as it's going to have some GAINS over the previous engine. :)

Yeah an engine swap is fine but it has to be within the same family. If you can't afford it then leave it alone don't put some shitty substitute in its place.

So you are saying that the Chevrolet V8 350ci T-Spec is putting in his E36 is sh!t? I don't know about you but I think it is a good idea! Why? More power and it is reliable!

So youre saying that the 2.3t is shitty ? The 2.3 s a far from "shitty" motor for the price , just because its not DOHC and doesn't have a wonderful high flowing BMW head doesn't mean its "shitty" at all ... what does your motor put down to the wheels with 400 dollars in mods ?:) unless its in the 250rwhp range ... then i will shut my mouth .. but untill then i will contine with my swap and show you the outcome / carnage :)
