Thought this was kind of funny, sorry if this has been posted before, heh:

"With the ignition off, hold the trip odometer reset button down and at the same time turn the ignition to position 1. Now the mileage readout screen displays some sort of code and then when its done, the warning lights come on and all of the gauges go from 0 to full scale and then back down."

Think it only works on E36's though, but I'm not sure. Probably just to test all the gauges?

Yeah it's the test all the gauges. It also made a cool opening shot during one of the max videos I remember seeing.
(or maybe it was a dtmpower video..i forget now)

No, OBC has nothing to do with this.
just get in the car press and hold odometer reset button, turn your key to #1 position, release the button and wait

i'd like to know that as well!

mine said something like this not 100% sure anymore, i did it last week

TEST 1 - 385495 km
TEST 2 - 00 km
TEST 3 - 432 km

--
TEST 7 i think is then when the gauges go all the way up

It is just a bunch of serial numbers and software versions.

it was a DTM video , the yellow m3 (not dado's M3 though)
