i think you'd be better off, if you have limited funds to do an M50 motor swap...they cost maybe 1g in the US complete, all u need is E34 oil pan after and your done (also tranny, either M20 or M50 tranny) it is a lot more reliable and has same HP and sounds nicer, 6cyl!

I agree with e46lover, s14 requirs alot more maintance than m50 motor and you'll have a torque six in there which will be easier to mod

TAKE IT FROM AN E30 M3 OWNER.....
get an M50 for your e30, the s14 is a great engine, an dont get em wrong I love my car, but the m50 motor is cheaper, easier to find, easier to tune and the I6 sounds alot sweeter

there are alot more parts needed than just the oil pan, especialy since your starting with a 318.....but a m50 swap would be the more reliable way to go...in my opinion

What would be your guess on the cost of an average m50 swap, no mods, just strait engine swap. This is of course with all labor done myself.

I've really been considering doing this, or buying another car with an m20.

well ya, suspension made for a 6cyl to support the weight..and he will need either the M20 or M50 tranny, exhaust? i dunno

Thanks but is every one sure that the M50 engine will fit in a 318i.
I have a m50 engine already to buy for $400 its in good running order but it has a blown head gasket, but i would just rebuild the engine. Put proformance shit on it to make this car sweet, But before i do or buy anything i need to know if it will all fit without moding everything. If anyone knows of a website thats shows a M50 engine already installed on a e30 please tell me. Thanks

It will fit yes. You'll need to change virtually everything in your car. The final drive blah blah.

www.lukasbmw.com (i think) has some more info.
