i say do an engine swap, dont even bother with the 1.8 unless you want to put a lot of money into it....

well it is cheap for me no labour and i have a source for cheap cheap parts i can't afford to do an engine swap. and i plan on turboing next summer cause i can get that cheap too any way i am rebuilding my 1.8 but no one will answer my question.

thats another problem, since not many people have done this it will be harder to find information on it...

Your best bet in finding out information is to check out some 2002 website / message boards... An m42 camshaft will not fit an m10 motor and if you're going for a turbo motor you're going to want a custom cam put in there eventually, one with little overlap.

If you can get cheap parts then get a cheap 318is engine and add good performance upgrades to the engine and chassis...forget the turbo, you'll be much happier in the end.

The rule is , start with a good base.If you are going to modify do it right the 1rst time.By cheaping out now it will cost you more down the line.Which would you rather have,a stock rebuilt 318is(M42) or a rebuilt 318i(M10) with a turbo? :huh?:

ok here is the deal guys i live in a small town 20 minutes highway drive out side of red deer. there is no work in sylvan cause its a small town everyone works in red deer as do i. now i have no money as of now. my dad is paying for my rebuild because right now he has to drive into sylvan and pick me up and drive out red deer at night 12 to be exact and pick me up when i am done work he doesn't exactly love doing this. so i need to get my engine back into my car and on the road with as little money used as possibleand as asap. so what ever i can do to the current engine would be greatly appreciated thanks
