Valentine 1, Bel, Passport?

Thoughts? Want to get one...

I hate the speed limit. The law is an ass. Basically, a ca$h grab, and not too subtle at that!!!*uzi*

Nah - they got radar detector detectors.. (say that five times fast!) And the lasers can toast ya from almost a klick away. Not worth it in my opinion.

I have the bel980 and the Valentine. They both work great. Both can't be detected. As far as lasers go, they won't help you there. :(

Pretty risky in Ontario though.

TruE. My brother got his confiscated a few weeks ago by a radar detector detector and a $170 fine. Since then i'm scared to use mine (Passport 8500). Although i never really used it before, it just looks "cooL".

What if you have the V1 installed in your car hidden like one of those mirror leds or something, if they caught you will they ripoff the radar off your car?

Rubbish, unfortunately....:( :( :(

The Spectre thingy OPP uses WILL detect every known radar detector, including the V1.
V1, and others are immune to the VG2 radar detector detectors, but not to Spectre, which is relatively new technology.
You can thank the Aussies (NOT, the bloody bastards...) for that fine piece of technology.

BTW, Beltronics is working on new radar detectors that will be immune to Spectre - once they get their hands on Spectre to find out how it works...:( :( :( .

They most certainly will.

Anyone who tells you otherwise is a damn fool. They ripped out a radar detector from some American sport players' car (forget which sport) who was playing in Canada a little while ago

They destroyed the Mercedes-Benz wiring in the process, but WTH - cops are there to get the evidence, and if evidence (plus a banned device) are wired into the electronics of the car - too bad!

I have an old Passport...yes the original one...everytime it detects (and usually it's fake), i'll simply turn it off so it can't be detected (it can't detect if it's not on). No need to leave it on...it's done it's job.

But recently, i've been going right past radar traps with no alarm triggered...so this thing is obsolete and a false security.

I want to get a V1...and i'll keep the old passport in the car just in case I get caught with that radar detector detector...so i'll just throw the V1 under the seat, and take out the passport and give the cops that.

What kind of detector was your brother using and where?

I'm just asking because I know people with Cheap A$$ radar detectors can be detected easily by VG-2. It happened to my cheap friend on our way to Montreal, he got it confiscated and a $600 fine too! (I TOLD him to buy a better one, but he didn't listen).

For the price of the ticket, he could've gotten a Valentine-1.

I use a fairly decent one. It's got all the newest toys like VG2 and laser, 360' detection, direction, etc, but I still turn it off once I get a steady signal and I just start to slow down and behave. I don't rely on it, but it's nice as an early warning.
I modded mine to fit into one of those cheap lighter-socket car alarm systems. The police can't even tell it's radar unless they took it apart.

I have a Bel 980 which is excellent and has excellent accuracy as well. I never use it in the city, no point, but I use it on the highway usually. Never been busted, it has the VG2 guard, but just in case I got pulled over, I have a really shitty one in the car as well that the cop could take. I know the radar detector has saved me enough. If you get busted it is a 110$ fine and they take it away.

I got busted with my Valentine as well. I agree with keeping a shitty one to hand over as once you give it to them they go away. After they give you a ticket of course.

That is not true the Spectre can not pickup two brands of radar detectors on the market the Cobra and PNI.

I currently use the Cobra they are not the best but good value for the money.

I beat the laser a few times but I saw the cop first on the 407 and then hit the brake then it went off.

If he is hidding and he zap me then that might be a different story.

Radar detectors are worth the money. I had a Bel 980 and it saved me from a lot of tickets. The only reason I don't have it anymore is that it got jacked by some theif..

Heres an interesting story for you....

One time a cop managed to get behind me in his undercover pig mobile and tailed me for a bit. As soon as he turned on his radar my detector went off and I slammed the brakes. He later pulled me over and demanded that I give him my radar detector and his basis for this was that my taillights went on as soon as he turned on his device.

I was smart. I read on a website somewhere this USEFUL tidbit of information.

Cops can search your whole car, BUT cannot search your persons unless they suspect DRUGS or WEAPONS.

So ... .when i saw the cherries in my rear view mirror, I took the detector and put it into my pocket. The cop was pissed when he pulled me over and demanded that my friend and I get out of the car. He searched for 30 minutes to no avail.... stupid pig.... but couldn't find the detector (obviously). Even if he had seen the detector in my pocket, he wouldn't have been able to search my pockets unless he thought I had drugs or weapons. AND IF he had searched me and found the detector that would have NEVER held up in court because he is only supposed to be looking for drugs and weapons...

So he gave me some bullshit speeding ticket when I wasn't even speeding... I took it to court and raped that pig....

Moral of the story: if you get a cop pulling you over ... quickly put the detector into your pocket and they can't do anything

Both times I've been pulled over when I've been speeding the cop hasn't even noticed I had a detector, I even had one stick his head right into my window and look around.

Although taking it off quickly is an option, I would opt for just not touching it and pretending it doesn't exist. If the cop is pulling you over for speeding and he sees your hand go up and grab something he's probably going to suspect you.

And who knows what he'll suspect you're grabbing for - if the cop is on the edge you might find yourself in for a lot more trouble than you bargained for ...
