Okay, I do NOT want to go into too many details, but I want my car painted. It is cosmos black metallic, and that is the colour I will get, no crazy colour change or anything like that I just want it re-sprayed the same colour. SO who knows people that do good work? What kind of prices am I looking at? I want it to be very very good, and I will probably pay to have an extra coat of clear coat put on. I am fanatical when it comes to paint and how it looks/feels. I don't want any "ripple" effect or anything like that. So who knows anyhting at all? I am located in Hamilton so people post everything you know on PAINT! Thanks all,

Brad

Well I'll tell you what I know - never "uh oh" and go to Macco - unless you want fish eyes all over the car. Not to mention they painted right over the greese in the door james, so it just slid off when you touched it.

Go to Mississauga BMW - they send it to "European Autobody" - got my quarter panel done two weeks ago - and the quality and color matching is perfect.

Going to get my molding strips done soon there..

What do you think they would charge for just a re-spray? Same colour of course..........

Dunno, I'm sure it's not the cheapest - but the quality is there.

I'm going to call up for a quote for my moldings tomorrow. And some other bits of damage done over last weekend.

Get a quote for me!! Like is $1500 too low to expect for a re-spray? I would want it to be like at least as good as stock (BMW paint is like the softest damn paint on the market.....which sucks). Anyone?

If you take it to a good place, extra clear coat is not really needed to get that extra shine outta your car. It'll just make matters worse on your paint. It can peel quicker. How much do you want to pay to get your car re-painted?

Alright, I'll ask about the entire car re-spray quote. I'll post with the results.. if it's really reasonable for a complete re-spray - I might be tempted to do mine all over - including the moldings.

$1500 is way too low to get the original quality paint...I would say at least $3g's...Its all about the time they spend on the car, the paint alone is not more then $500 (thats paint, hardener, reducer, clear)...A good painter charges $300 to paint...the rest is all in the bodywork....

damn.............3g's is a LOT of cash for just a re-spray. I had no idea it would be that expensive.........

It seems like a lot of $, but you can have that guarantee that you will not be upset if you are going to be paying that much. I'm talking if you go to the dealership, cuz the dealership costs around that much to re-spray the car. Each dealership has different quality of work and different prices. The best dealership bodyshop is Mississauga BMW. They do AMAZING WORK!!! If I were you, I wouldn't settle for a crappy $1500 paintjob for a BMW. Just save your $ and wait if you have to so you get a good paintjob. I stopped trusting small bodyshops a long time ago. Going to the dealership is MUCH LESS of a hastle too. You know that when you go to pick up your car it will be perfect!

If you come down to one of the Niagara cruizes I can show you a really good body shop called Advantage that will probably give you a good price. They did Gurl BMW's car (below) and i'm bringing my E30 there July 1st. It may be a 40 min. drive for ya...but you do want a good shop.

Ya I can't make it out this weekend but hopefully the next one I will be there. What would they charge for just a re-spray?

I honestly don't know. Best thing to do is to come down and talk to the guy. His name is Burk and he is pretty good with pricing. Just tell him exactly what you want so he can give you a price...mind you he will probably give you a "worst case" price first.

Ya that's what I figured........is your paint really good quality? Compare it to stock for me............I am pretty fanatical about my cars cleanliness, it always has wax on it etc. etc.

Don't want to flame your workplace - but I had a friend there who had front end damage on a Civic - 427 Auto Collision took 12 weeks (3 months!) to repair and paint the bumper, two quarter panels and the hood.

But then, the paint job was perfect.

Hey 98323IS,

I called European Autobody - talked to a guy named Shane. He was pretty upfront about a re-spray and the little labour costs that just keep adding up (trim removal/replacement etc) when doing a complete re-spray.

He says for a E36 2door - you're looking at about $3500-4000 on the road price. Steep yes..but then, I'm thinking the car will look like factory new.

I also asked about painting the side strips too. He didn't recommend it as the paint tends to bubble out after a year or so. Apparently the rubber material doesn't stick to the paint as well.

So looks like I'm not painting the strips... More money for xenons!!

Wow thanks a lot man. I still have not decided what to do yet, I am going to try one last thing to my paint now and see how it comes out. So hopefully I can put that money into my car instead of paint!
