If you've never participated before and would like to try it out for the first time you may do so as a guest for $50.00 as a one time allowance.

Register early and get your car ready. Be part of the track walk. This is the most important part to learn the course!
Late comers will have to get rides with other participants to learn the course. If you miss the track walk, and you may also miss out on your first practice run!

Helmets are always mandatory. A recommendation of Snell 2000 or SA2000 or better is preferable.
Some loaner helmets will be available for rent, but this is on a first come, first serve basis. Helmet rentals are $10/day.
If you plan on competing towards the autoslalom finals & competition trophy (awarded at the Christmas Dinner)
we have decided to take your best results from 6 of 8 events (keep in mind Winter Go-Karting results also count for the later).

Registration for 2013 season can be done electronically via our website. You can pay by PayPal.
Memberships are also being done electronically and that feature is already up and running.
As usual with both facilities, washrooms will always be open for usage all day long. You can buy lunch at the onsite Powerade concession.
Lunch at Mosport DDT is available on site (bring some cash).

First-Timers:
You must be a member to be able to attend our Autoslalom events. If attending your first event for the season,
complete, please note that all observers, helpers, and passengers must complete a waiver.
Parents or guardians need to submit waivers for children.

P.S. Volunteers needed!
Anyone that can help out with Autoslalom please e-mail me or contact our volunteer coordinator Dan Janssen (aka Danimal on maX)
You will automatically be qualified for our new rewards program (build up enough volunteer hours and you can get a free Mosport school!)
We need your help to keep these events alive.

We use SCCA Solo-II PAX/RTP (http://trillium-bmwclub.ca/content/autocross-2006-car-class-index) system Tom, but you can still bring out your open wheel car. It doesn't say anything about $60 non-member fee... it's $50.

That 110.7 is a smoking time. I'd need more tire to get close to that time. However, I'm satisfied with posting a faster raw time than the other two guys driving the same M3

PAX classing is messed, I get hit harder cause I have no interior then the 335 cars?

The 335 has 300hp, 1990 325 was 168hp (in 1990!!)

The idea is that you are supposed to look at the class rules and decide which class you'd like to run in, then build your car to the limits of that class. If you want to be competitive you need to build your car to the class specifications, it's as simple as that.

I don't even think your car is classed correctly anyway. The street prepared category only allows for the removal of sound system components, fog lights, rear view mirror and sun visor. A fully gutted interior is only allowed in the prepared category, so your car should really be classed in the Prepared category.

But we are not running for multiple class titles, which the classing system is set up for, but using it as a guide line for placing cars pax time, and its not always a perfect system because of it. It's susposed to be an tool used to make cars equal, sorry but I don't feel that as my car sits its being given a competitive chance, and cars in the past years have had been aloud to be placed in a pax that was more fair to them by organizers

Overall I'm running to have fun, but its hard to look at those pax'd time sheets.

Hey Rich, I agree that some car classes seem way off. My 187hp 325 ways about the same as the 135/335 but with half the torque and power. Even still they are not the best cars for auto slalom, as I don't think any have won any titles. Some E36 have though when properly prepped. Maybe the 335 are too new/pricey for people to be beating up in autox yet?

Anyhow, read through the class rules and allowances. Maybe you are in the wrong class, but like Randy said, it might be even tougher.

The class system is set up so that there can be class titles, and the PAX system is set up so that all cars can compete for an overall title, but again the only way you'll be competitive is if you build your car to the limits of your class. So if you wanted Richie you could run pretty much any size of tires and breaks that you want. With a square set of 245 r-comps tucked under some fender flares, some big ass brakes, and some better suspension your car would competative.

Do you have any examples of cars intentionally being PAX'ed lighter than they should be? Because if they were that'd be unfair to the rest of the competitors.

It's definitely not a perfect system by any means, but short of benchmarking every car (bracket racing essentially) it's the only fair way to do it.

And don't feel like you're the only one Richie, my car is classed as SM, it's PAX'ed heavier than your car currently is... and it still has a full interior :D.

I asked earlier what it was that put your car in EP, but I don't recall getting an answer. With an engine swap of the same manufacturer you'd typically be in SM like me.

I hope they make you slower... lol

jabela
07-19-2013, 02:51 PM
Yup, no brainer as I wasn't using R-comps anyhow. lol.. I might be slower while getting used to them and figuring out how to set them up properly. I'm wondering if I should take of the M3 front sway bar I have on and put my stock one back now that I have more camber and stiffer springs up front.
Currently my ride height front/rear is 12", which I think is too low. I'll probably raise it to 13/12.5 front/rear before sunday.

It's because the SCCA hasn't taken the time to actually classify your car. All 5 series that aren't classified get dumped into F Stock, which is essentially a class meant for muscle cars. I agree, it's not a fair PAX, it seems as though if you had an e28 525e... with a beastly 127hp motor you'd end up in FS as well.

It's certainly not perfect, but I think they class cars based on historic performance. There are certainly cars that have better classifications. 135/335's have twice the power/torque of my old 325 with about the same weight. Still, they're not the usual winners in the US nationals.
Corvette, S2000, Miata, Impreza/STI, MINI Cooper, Mustang GT, Celica, Civic Si, Mazda 2, CRX, E36's, RX8, Evo's are the typical front runners.

There's no E46 325's, or any 135/335/535 even competing at the US nationals. E46 325 because you should just run a E46 330 with 40 free HP, and 135/335/535 probably because they're still expensive so people aren't will to race/mod them for autoslalom.

For me it's more about having fun and getting better as a driver. If you really want to win, you could easily spends many thousands on high end coilovers, tires, exhaust, etc.

I would have even just ben happy with a taller rear end. I was stuck shifting between 2nd and 3rd more times than I can count. Actually, that's a lie, it was 11-12 shifts per run if memory serves me. That 4:10 is so much fun most of the time though. I can't complain too much.

Yikes! Did they run a tighter course for the newbies who came for the car show? The DDT event earlier this year I did most of the track in 3rd gear with only a couple shifts. The low end torque from the stroker does help though.

Any video?

Hmm I don't have a time for my 5th run. Oh well, I'm really not concerned at all, that was pretty much just a day for me to learn how to drive on my new (to me) tires. Quite a change from the all seasons! Now that I know how far they can be pushed, I need to work up the nerve to drive at that limit.

I was looking for your car Randy, it took me WAY too long to realize why that purple M3 looked familiar! Lol.

Yea, my last lap was missed too. Wasn't told to do a rerun. Felt like my best lap sadly. Oh well. Video shows a time of 1:45.633

However, during the lapping, my flu and lack of sleep caught up to me. That and not getting a pass by for 2 or 3 laps :huh?:
I was worried about a mental lapse that day and sure enough it happened. I should've gone home after autoslalom.

Anyhow, I went wide going into the first left hander after the bottom straight. The rear right tire went off the track, banged something hard (probably just from the drop off the track onto the dirt) and due to the sideways slide, bent that rim.
I had to go full oppo to save the spin.

So I'll either have to get it straightened or find a replacement.
I'd really like a set of Apex ARC-8's

Yup, just the rim. Put the spare wheel on and it was fine. Going to check the alignment to be sure.

Some participants have been asking for the PAX times on the BMWCC fb page, just wanted to know if they were posted anywhere already?

Sorry for the delay. Been out of town for work the last few weeks. I'll have them done this week.

Here are the results from August 25 along with the overall results. Congrats to Kevin for the win.

Anything in bold means I didn't have your car info page, so let me know your car info if that's you. Also, be sure to check your own times and PAX class for typos.
Cheers.

Engine was sick with lean codes so I have it in pieces right now replacing the CCV and DISA. I have them out, but they look like they are in good working condition. Any other suggestions for lean codes? It could be the O2 sensors I suppose, but

Hopefully all will be ready for tomorrow morning, otherwise I won't be there (unless someone will let me co-drive their car... I could pay your entry fee or something).

See if you can get a scanner on it to monitor the O2s and see what they are doing. Depending on the exact codes that it's giving you may be able to narrow down which sensor to focus on.

You are more than welcome to co-drive my Civic if you want, but you may not be too happy in something so different from your car.

i have my MSD Dashhawk that i use the monitor everything on my rx8 , if your able to bring the car we can try it to see if helps narrow down the issue also my rx8 gets lean codes up the ass as well but its mainly due to dirty/wet MAF because of the way my intake is setup or bad coil packs

Looks like a nice layout. Too bad I missed it. Car is back together and running great now. Must have just been the CCV.

It was tight and definitely a workout for the bigger cars and those of us that don't have power steering :) I kept watching the 5 series waiting for a 3 point turn.

I can't believe we got 5 runs + fun runs, cleaned up and I was driving home by 12:30PM. We should have almost reset a different course and had a second event in the afternoon.

As a side note, I think somebody should bring a scooter to follow the cars during fun runs to put the cones back. By the end of it all you just had to do the course by memory as the cones were EVERYWHERE.

Fun times.

I have a question about the next event, the original post says its the 27th, but I believe I remember hearing that it's a week earlier. Can anyone confirm if it's the 20th or 27th? May not be a bad idea to start another event thread for it just in case to avoid any confusion.

For those subscribed to this thread, take note we finally secured the location and dates for the Autumn Autoslaloms.

Sunday Sept 22 (Powerade)
Sunday Oct 27 (Powerade)
Sunday Nov 17 (Powerade)
Showed up and nobody was there. I guess the dates changed to next week? Probably due to the rally today. I didn't see any notice about that :-(

That sucks, it looks like the OP was edited, someone should have bumped the thread with that info or made a post about it.

Yeah I showed up too, obviously before you since you're always late *shiner*
I called Scott since I didn't have Randy's number and they were all up north for the Muskoka fun rally. I thought the 27th was the original date and it got changed to the 20th and that the OP was never updated. Apparently it was the other way around. *thmbsdwn*

Sorry guys, I wasn't thinking when I originally posted that comment Jon (back in July - now edited to not confuse anyone about Nov)... it was supposed to say 27th & 17th (for Oct & Nov) - like the OP was edited, but it was a dumb mistake stating the exact WRONG dates. If there's ever any doubt, see the Trillium website (and forum)... it's always correct. Again, I apologize for the mix up and hope to see you guys out this Sunday.
