So I know my diff as a ratio of 2.93 how do I know if its a LSD. Or open diff
Car is a 1997 328is standard.

Jack up the rear of the car and rotate one of the rear wheels. If the other rear wheel rotates in the opposite direction you have an open diff, same direction you have an LSD.

for track use most ppl like an LSD, but on the road, doesn't really matter
