Royal Purple Synchromax is what I've had in my tranny for the past few years, and haven't had any issues!

mobil 1 synthetic atf. easily found everywhere and relatively cheap.

Arek, what are your thoughts on the Redline D4 ATF? It's what I have in mine now...

Redline MTL if you don't see winter use because it can be a little tough shifting when cold.

Basically, it depends on your transmission. Some BMW transmissions use ATF and others use a GL4 fluid.

There should be a sticker on it telling you whether our not it takes ATF. Some BMW experts recommend Redline MTL for ALL but you should check first.

But, as you describe problems when it gets hot it implies your synchros are not really doing their job of sowing things down to allow a smooth mesh. So, I am inclined to say MTL.

d4 atf is good as well. This debate is akin to which oil should I put in my engine.
