Hey guys,

ordered a new part, you'll see the photos below...

just wondering if anyone else has had this issue and if I can just take out the air box to be able to get at it.

let me know what you think.

J

PS. no check engine light or anything. just the sound of the pressure is what gave it away.

Yes, taking out the air filter box and disconnecting the connections to it will allow you to remove the rubber boot.

Does it make a whistling noise when you hit the gas? I think I might have the same problem

I had the same tear in my intake boot and it was making a whistle.

Here's a good DIY. It's pretty easy, though unclamping/clamping the engine side of the tube can be a bit tight.

you should replace both the bottom and upper intake boots after about 120,000km... I took my out at 150,000km and didn't have a rip but a large crack. their inexpensive $20 lower and $40 for upper, more or less.

Yes, common issue, easy to replace, should take you 20 minutes. And as stated it is a good idea to either replace or look over the lower while you are at it. It would eventually lead to idle/driving issues. Both boots and elbow locations crack and split often on everything I6.
