View Full Version : Maxbimmer Spring Cruise 2012: Saturday May 12th (GTA)

Happy 2012 driving season everyone. I'm once again gearing up to locate and lead you all to some of the best driving roads that Southern Ontario has to offer. I'm putting in some extra effort this year (new routes!) to keep it fresh and interesting.

Date: Saturday May 12th
Time: 10:30AM MEET! Driver's meeting followed by departure at 11AM SHARP!
Meeting Place: Kennedy Commons AMC Theatre 33 William Kitchen Rd Toronto

For those who have been to cruises in the past, you know what to expect. We have averaged ~75 cars per event for the past several years and hope to see a similar showing at Spring Cruise. We meet up, chat for a little bit, I discuss rules that the group mostly ignores later on...it's all a tradition. The route is going to be the typical ~500km affair so bring water, snacks, GPS, FRS radios, check the air in your spare tire, all the good stuff you would do for any lengthy roadtrip.

I specifically disliked the first ~150km of this Spring event ('09-'11 versions), so I drastically revamped it. We no longer drive on boring straight roads for the first 2.5 hours. I'm proud to say it's now a full day of great roads and scenery.

Important notes (actually read them!):
o This is a full day event, we will not return to the GTA until 8-9pm.
o You will need a full tank of gas at the beginning of the cruise so fill up before arriving at the meeting spot.
o HAVE A VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE, CAR REGISTRATION, AND INSURANCE. OPP have visited us on this cruise, and really only ticket for a lack of these basic items. Driving on bald tires is another easy ticket to get.
o Dinner is at approximately 5:00pm.
o FRS radios will be used during this cruise, and are very helpful tools to have. Channel 6-9.

That's all for now, click attending if you will be joining us. Thanks!

I just got my first BMW a few weeks ago and I've been wanting to take her on some nice drive...but have no idea where.

I don't like driving near Toronto (only really on the 401 going fast). Why don't you post the legs, eta for each leg and that way people can hop into the drive at a certain point outside the city.

For obvious reasons.... we don't want anyone hopping into the drive. *no-no*

I prefer it that all info is kept offline. Usually the pre-meet is where people show up if they don't want to join the cruise. Legs would give away the locations and take the fun out of it.

That or get a buddy to call you and tell you where the group is. It takes the load off the organizer, than to have to worry about stranglers, it's hard enough keeping the group together.

I don't know what you mean by that... the 401 is super fast I don't think one car passed me the whole way to Ottawa.

It's okay if cops show up... it's not like it's an illegal race. If they really want to get someone they know where the initial meet is and they have helicopters.

I think a drive up to Wasaga or Sauble Beach in the summer would be nice.

Yeah Kev, within a couple blocks of the dinner stop are both Shell no-ethanol 91 and Petro 94 stations. It's 380km to that point though so make sure you're full at the start of the cruise.

The second half of the cruise was great, loved the roads, scenery, elevation changes, and of course the cars.

There was a convertible E36 with dealer plates that was somewhat annoying, you under-steered onto the gravel shoulder nearly wiping out (I have this on video), and drove slow in almost all of the turns.
And that's fine, except you would get power hungry anytime someone wanted to pass you on the straights.. don't take it personally, but that's not cool.

About 6 of us got stopped/interrogated after the "fun" had already subsided. Not a big deal, the copper basically wanted to extract information, at least from me he did. *angel*

Last cruise I am going to. OG crew knows how to drive. Unfortunately it was impossible to keep up with them at the front when the "racecars" kept passing , while tailing each other and cutting people off in blind spots *wave*

You know exactly who you are.

I noticed Randy left mid cruise, I stopped bothering and slowed right down.

The multicolour e30 was the best, what the hell kind of passing was that?? Going side by side in one lane??? Seriously??? Thanks for shoving me into the shoulder, and then tailing notoriously? You're definately a skilled racing driver.*thmbsdwn*

Yup, I was one of those 6. Although it only seemed he wanted to talk to the first 3 cars in the pack. I got out of my car and went to the cruiser to ask what was going on since we couldn't have been speeding being stuck behind a slowpoke. I think it was really good we all stuck together though. Cop had nothing on us.

Had to pull a detour to the Boston Pizza afterwards since we went off course.

Don't get out of line and you won't have this problem and you also won't be pissing others off.

There is no reason to be passing as Jay said at the start of the cruise. It is not a race.

It's more enjoyable if you leave room and follow each other instead of pulling stunts. I think I speak for everyone when I say we don't need an idiot like you side swiping us. Grow some patience.

That said after you left everyone was pretty well behaved and I enjoyed the second part of the cruise.

Whatever moment youre (Jint) complaining about not being allowed to pass was completely unecessary, the lead car was literally a few car lengths ahead in plain sight.
What's the point of racing ahead at that time?

No need for calling names there. Speak only for yourself, there are different types of people around, that may take things you say more personally.

I'm gonna speak for myself only but i'm sure there are others that may think the same as me, I got bored of driving for 200km in the heat without action. Some people come to the cruise for action not good behaviour.

ARE YOU ****ING FOR REAL?

You going HEAD ON INTO INNOCENT TRAFFIC IS WHAT YOU CONSIDER ACTION? Zero common sense. Not only did you endanger a innocent bystander, you then endangered 10 CARS ON THE CRUISE. Its a good thing I have some DRIVER TRAINING and reacted super early before most even realized what was about to happen. If I hadn't swerved off on the shoulder, trying not to wipe out on gravel, there is a good chance there would of been a massive collision. The other guys who were right there told me the same thing once we got to Timmies. You are IMMATURE and should be banned from cruises.

So lets recap:

You almost take out bystanders-who then called the cops
You can't judge speed or distance AT ALL-proven by your passing and the constant tailing and brake slamming not to hit the car infront
You can't pass-I am afraid for any who run into you
You caused me to crop dust EVERYONE- I am sure people were ECSTATIC about that!
You've been told by countless others about this- And you STILL don't get it

As soon as this happened, I did everything possible to GET THE **** AWAY FROM YOU, and what did you do? Continued to pass to end up right up against me AGAIN!

This is why I am not going to any more cruises. YOU CLEARLY DON'T GET IT!

Oh yeah, PS, your car is SLOW. My bone stock SHITTY 4 cylinder HAD ZERO ISSUES KEEPING UP WITH YOU. Oh, and you WERE flooring it.

Bye.

I was happy to be one of the first cars up front everyone kept their distance which made for some wicked driving, awesome cruise Jay loved every minute :)

I'm surprised at the fact that you've managed to capture the attention of a few members in a negative manner a few years in a row and still remain unapologetic.
We all have a time when we eventually wake up and realize that some actions should be kept to a minimum especially when we're not the only ones affected by it.
If and when your wake up call arrives, hopefully you're the only one affected.

Fun times save for the "few" who made thing very "interesting".

I am SOOOO glad the guy in the mismatched e30 on near bald tires wasn't tailing my car the way he was tailing the e92 335i Behind me because I would have flat out snapped.

What many need to realize is that not all cars are able to stop in the same distance. ie. your e30 will stop in the trunk of the e92 in an emergency braking situation so in order to not get into an accident you want to leave some space.

PLEASE people KEEP THAT IN MIND!!! Just because you think you can keep up with the nicer/faster/better performing car up front doesn't mean you SHOULD RIDE HIS ASS!!!

My car stops relatively well for its age/size and I am still very reluctant to tail gate someone's ass around the curves. YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN you might have to swerve/ or come to an instant stop due to road condition/situation up ahead.

When you behave like an idiot I will call you one. There are many others on the cruise that feel the same way about you as you can see by the replies.

Get a clue man....

If you want action, take it to the track. Prove you and your cars are badass by winning a time attack event.

No need for calling names there. Speak only for yourself, there are different types of people around, that may take things you say more personally.

People made a big deal out of one pass, that doesn't seem normal to me, therefore there is nothing to apologize for. Everyone was passing, but only the old 5 series gets blamed. I know i'm the only one in an E34 at the cruise, but damn take it easy with the flaming. That was made by the idiot in the blue (bone stock) E36 4-dr. One of the most aggressive drivers on the cruise IMO. Happened in front of me... Basically went in way too fast and locked up stopping just before the mail boxes. Funny as ****. Also, the guy in the blacked-out E46 4-dr.. were you drunk?? Lots of drama as expected.

I want to apologize for my retarded downhill+uphill pass. Right before that, I got passed by Terry and a couple more E36s that pulled in right in front of me and pelted me with rocks. I didn't feel like hanging behind them, they were tailgating each other for no reason.

If you're going to pass, please be considerate of who is ahead of you AND behind you.

Please leave room. I was probably passed because I was leaving enough room to not get showered with rocks, and others felt I was holding them up because of this.

That uphill blind pass was something else.

I wasn't going to say anything but since you called me out, Please, be considerate of people with faster cars, YOU ARE holding us up. Try and stick around with cars which are similar in power to yours. Its more fun for everyone that way the few times we get to "open them up"...*wave*

Last year at the fall cruise I was in front of the supercharged M3 clone for a bit, I could see I was holding him up in the straight ways, I signalled him to pass and then spent the afternoon playing catch up to him. He had fun, I had fun. it is common sense.

Also, EVERYONE was getting stones kicked up, its a fact of the roads. There was more gravel/road dirt then usual this time around.

Anyways, lets focus on the positive, not the negative aspects...

Nice to meet another E46fanatic, even though I let you win that mini race at the end Ralf :D (sarcasm = [on])

In summary we all probably made one or two mistakes on the cruise, hopefully we can learn from them.

This has nothing to do with your car, its your damn attitude. The blue e36 , and the mismatch e30 were just as bad, but they didn't go head on into traffic. I can't recall the OG crew cruises being like this, because, they WEREN'T. It all started to go downhill the year the Jetta GLi was written off.

All I am saying is start giving a damn. I couldn't care less if you pass me, but come on man, USE COMMON SENSE. DON'T TAIL and relax.

I don't really see how you can hold anyone up on a cruise. You leave as much room in front of yourself as you need to and go as fast as you wish within that cushion of space. That is, unless you enjoy being right on someone's rear. It's not as if Jay was racing down every turn; it was quite the contrary, and he was just a couple cars ahead to which I didn't have much trouble keeping up with.

Regardless, I had a great time and just wanted to acknowledge my mistake.

I'm lucky, I called my shop that takes care of me 24/7, and they called in a flatbed truck to save me. I finally got back to the shop at 12:30 at night to look over the car. Clutch was blown - I knew it was going to blow soon, I just hoped it was not going to happen 3 hours away from Toronto lol!!

Anyhow, super long cruise for me. Special thanks to all my friends that either stayed with me, or once they noticed I was not at the end point, they kept calling/texting to see if I was ok....all the way until I got back home, they were checking up on me. Even a few guys that didnt take part in the cruise found out, and started to check up on me every hour to make sure I got home safe. I must say, there are some great people that are part of this club.

As for the actual cruise, I stayed at the back for the first half with my other E92 friends. We all had radios, and had a blast talking to each other, and the fact that we were at the back allowed us to slow down, and then gun it whenever it was fun to do so...and catch up to everyone. You guys don't all need to be at the front to push your cars. We were at the back pushing speeds and having an amazing time.

For the second half, my other buddy with the black M3 vert wanted me to join him at the front, so I did. Also lots of fun...other than one E46 that for some reason kept driving into the dirt lane, and as a result kicking up massive dust/stones. Not sure if he could not handle his car at such high speeds or what, but it got a little annoying. I noticed my friend who was in front of me, and getting most of the dirt/stones on his car, flipped him the bird, and then blasted by him. I did not pass the E46, but I did keep my distance. Other than that, the second part was lots of fun!!! Shitty that it ended short due to my clutch giving way.

I thought the cruise route this year was stellar. The first half you take it more easy, and enjoy the scenery...I loved driving next to the water. The second part, you could kick it up a notch and really let lose. Perfect balance of both scenarios, and no boring highway routes. Loved it.

Looking forward to it next year. Hopefully people will behave a little more, and the good guys won't get discouraged from coming again.

Dude u passed Terry for no reason when he and his car were capable of higher speeds than you. Also try not crossing the yelllow, many times i looked in my rear views and you over shot the turn going into too hot. It really isnt worth risking your life your g/fs life and your car for a bit of adrenaline. Drive within your skill level and what your car can handle.

I propose MaxBimmer charity MMA/Boxing event.

Basically anyone that has beef with whichever member may sign up, 3 2mins rounds, not much rules other than no biting or breaking necks, and whoever still stands at the end of rounds is the winner between the beef/argument, I'll be the judge, $10 at the door per person to either watch or join.

all proceeds goes to Humane society for the poor kitties and puppies.

Single kits are still in the early stages, I'd tell her to wait a bit for them to work out the kinks.

Personally, I have a JB4 (chip) + integerated meth injection, intake (DCI), exhaust and catless downpipes. The difference between stock and this is huge and relativley cheap.

If she really wants to go single (turbo that is), I'd recommend getting the VISHNU PROceed chip (they are the group thats doing the single turbo) so that later down the road her upgrade to single will be easier. Also, I hope she is MT because the AT on the 335 is limited to about 500ft/lbs torque and will require an expensive rebuild (4-5k) to support the torque output from a single. There are rumors of VISHNU being able to overcome this but again, early stages.

Agree!

Thanks! I was surprised to get so many compliments on it, as the e90 crew thinks is too raw. I love it on WOT but the drone on it is pretty unbearable.

Thx for the suggestion, ya ive been following both vishnus and hpfs single turbo kit threads and your right its in the early stages, im talking down the road she wants to upgrade she still has almost a year of warranty left of her original 4 years..might buy another 2 years extended onto that, what do you think about extending the warranty is it worth it or? also how much did all those upgrades cost you? what do you think about the hpf exhaust for the 335? you can PM ME if you want :)Single kits are still in the early stages, I'd tell her to wait a bit for them to work out the kinks.

If your car is the one im thinking of with the dual Arkrym cf diffuser..I was trying to signal you over and wave my hand for you to pull over...I was driving my gfs black 335 convert with the red seats at the time, your car REAKED of burning clutch and your car was shooting blue smoke out the tail pipes for quite some time too! Made my gf second guess about upgrading her stock 335s engine parts LOL sry... Anyway glad you got a tow, hopefully the clutch didnt explode into a 1000 pieces like my clutch did once (pain in the ass to clean)

Hey yup that is me, and its a 328i with an AA Stage 2, Performance Exhaust, AFE Stage 2 Intake. (getting the 3stage manifold installed next month)

Blue smoke? Shit, didnt see you waving me to pull over lol. My car is in the shop right now, I think the clutch just needs to be changed.

Your girlfriend does not need to worry about her car...or at least in regards to my car....335's have a whole list of other issues I don't have to worry about lol. My N/A is more reliable, and less issues than the Twin Turbo's....but not hardly enough power/fun in comparison.

Most of my friends have the 335's heavily modded with serious horsepower. Killer machines, just make sure you have the $$ to keep up with the maintenance.

Got to pay to play.

You go to cruises to get lotsa action, its where the boys are turned into men and when you get passed, it means you lose. If you're passing, you're winning. End of story. show off what your car can do in the twisties, pull some sick driver skills and hope someone notices... Once you hit the freeway, its on! Race whoever you can, whether they're racing you or not. Get bitches and **** the track its too expensive

Hey Derek,

I apologized for a reason. I also gave a reason.

I don't mind Terry or anyone else passing me, but the way they did it was a little rough: three cars tailing each other cutting in right in front of me one by one, and going slightly into the shoulder to kick up rocks. I'm sure you can see why I was a little upset. If you noticed, when I pass, I leave as much room as I can behind me for who I'm going in front of. It's a matter of courtesy. You're right though, I should have just sucked it up and kept my distance behind the e36's.

I went into one turn too hot from what I remember. The rest of what you saw was probably me using up more space than my lane for a smoother apex, or to dip out of a cloud of rocks... Never would I do this into a blind corner.

No hard feelings I hope!

Flav

Next year I am coming with a pickup truck of bubble wrap to cover peoples front bumpers at a cost ;)

My poor Carbon fiber lip took a beating as well.

I might consider putting on my regular/winter bumper for these cruises next time around.

Thanks for coming out everyone, I enjoyed the whole day and am happy many of you did also.

As for just about everything negative shared, I'm laughing here. Literally everything I said not to do because it will ruin your day (passing, following too closely, adrenaline-fueled stupidity) was done. Why pass? We're all going to the same place, and there's no non-BMWs in front of you. Why follow someone? Did anyone notice that I passed just ONE vehicle the entire day? Instead of trying to get ahead when slower traffic impeded our progress and subsequently endangering the lives of everyone involved I just stopped. Pulled over to the shoulder to let space grow and have fun at our own pace. I think I read that a few E9x guys were doing something similar at the rear of the pack. Awesome idea. Please continue to do that. Even the times when I knew we would be pacing traffic ahead, I kept them far ahead and barely within view. Bam, no stone chips. No sudden stops. No reckless oncoming lane passing. A great day was had.

Again guys, try actually listening to what I say at the beginning of these things. It not only makes the day safer but a lot more enjoyable, also. I have a shit list of three specific people that I received at least 5 complaints each regarding (one of them at least a dozen, you can probably guess who). I will be sending these people PMs inviting them to either smarten up or not attend another one of our events.

It's unfortunate that we have to discuss so many negative aspects of the day here as I know such great times were had. I've never had so many people find me at the end of the day and genuinely thank me for "the best drive of their life" or the "most amazing roads ever seen". That's why I burn countless hours of my already scarce free time to find these places and share them with everyone. Let's move forward in a positive direction, learn from the mistakes, and get ready for Midnight Cruise in June. Yup, that was a plug.

Take care. :)

Do you need to save face or something? Is that why you're posting stupid reasons you were driving like an asshole?

You still don't get it. Noone cares about your "skill". We care about stupid antics on PUBLIC roads at an event that everyone is supposed to enjoy safely.
Jay had the drivers meeting and specifically said "keep passing to a minimum, don't follow closely, don't drive like a retard."
It wasn't supposed to be taken as a "wink wink, hehe I have to say these things because its a formality, drive it like you stole it."

And one more thing, if you already go to the track. And this was a cruise............

see where I'm going with this?

Great route (once again) Jay, I had a blast. I agree with the no-passing request, but as much as I tried to resist, I just couldn't stand driving behind the fool in the blacked-out 4-dr pre-facelift E46. The guy was either drunk as f*ck, or texting a novel as he constantly drove on the shoulder in front of us. So much, that the cloud of dust and amount of stones he kicked up/on the road would linger even if I was 10 car lengths back. Anyone driving behind me would agree. I just don't understand some retards.

I feel the best places to drive in would be the front of the pack or the back. It seems as if all the maniacs flock in the middle in the never-ending struggles to leap frog to the front :S

Honestly, there were times I had cruise control on. Like Jay, I only passed one car the entire time. Keeping a safe distance back also meant I barely got any stone chips. If people just use their heads and follow the simple guidelines preached in the beginning, all this crap would be kept to a minimum.

But yes, the entire first half of the drive was amazing. The road by the water was just stunning. The posted limit of 40km/h meant you could trot along slowly and take in the beautiful scenery. Loved it.

Fun fact: If this cruise was 380km to Peterborough, I had cruise control on for over 300 of it. Even on Lake Dr. (the scenic section of Keswick) it was holding 35km/h in 4th gear the entire time. Those of you who were stuck in the mid-pack leapfrogging probably can't fathom how the speeds could be so erratic just 10 cars behind me. I'll tell you how: tailgating and needless bursts of acceleration.

I actually got my third best mileage ever up front (9.8L/100km!). Smooth and steady, keep your distance, have a blast. *th-up*
