So, I'm having major issues with my automatic transmission on my 1996 e36 328is. I have the ability to get the parts to replace the torque converter and a better condition tranny.

Was wondering if anyone was willing to help me do a swap? I've never done anything close to that and need some knowledgable hands. I know going to a shop is going to cost me 3 arms and a leg. I'm willing to pay anyone for their time, (I was thinking $100 for the day).

If anyone is interested, please let me know!

Thanks,
Shane

This is not an easy replacement to do. Especially without a hoist and a transmission jack. I have done the auto to manual swap in my driveway and it wasn't exactly fun. Do you have any tools?
You might want to think about removing everything but the transmission, towing it to a shop, having them do just the tranny swap, and then you completing the rest of the buttoning up. And if your going to be dropping the tranny anyway, why not do the manual swap?

Either way. Was considering the swap. If anyone wants to help with a swap -- that's also something I'm willing to try.

Id suggest to go for the swap. If your going as far as to drop the tranny, might as well put in something that's going to last. Plus the manual tranny is much easier to put back in then the auto.

+1 on going for the swap. Much more straightforeword, cheaper, easier to repair in the future -- and more fun too right! lol I've got an extra G250 or 260 if you need one too

Can't PM yet since I don't have the amount of posts. Are you interested in helping me swap?

I lied, I can PM. Are either of you with the trannies able to help do the swap? It's great to purchase this wonderful piece of metal from you guys, but honestly it's just a wonderful piece of metal to me haha.

You have the tools with you so you just need a hand or you need to go somewhere with jacks and a compressor?

I don't have the tools but I wouldn't mind purchasing some of them depending on the cost, because then I'd have them for future projects, and currently I don't have a lift, no. What tools would I need?

A range of sockets, ratchets, breaker bar, inverted torx sockets, clutch alignment tool, torque wrench, transmission jack, car jack, jack stands (or a lift). And an air compressor with an impact gun would be a huge help. And a long, long extension (or several smaller extensions).
Do you have all the parts to do the conversion yet? I would help you out if a couple other guys helped as well, definitely wouldn't tackle this again by myself. I have all the tools minus the transmission jack.

Thanks for the list. I have a few friends with some of that stuff, and of you didn't mind me and whoever using your stuff that'd be cool too!

I've had some offers up in this thread for parts, haven't purchase them yet because I wanted to find a few helping hands. I live in an apartment so for me to have a tranny sitting around for too long would be an insane waste of space.

Shoot me a PM with your cell and I'll throw you a text!
