Theoretically would removing the muffler have the same amount of hp gain or more as installing the PE?

You wouldn't notice the gain, but more raspy and more throttle control. I am thinking about doing the muffler delete on the M5..... Prolly she'd a few LB's also..

I did a muffler delete on my e90 and i love it. Yeah shed at least 25lbs of metal. Sound is amazing!

I didn't notice any HP gain but $180 vs $1200 i'm not willing to spend that much for the same sound regardless of HP gain which at most will be 5hp

some muffler deletes can shed up to 40 lbs....in those cases how will it effect the height of the rear...will it make any noticeable difference...i have a 97 540i

Hmm, interesting. Who did the work for you? You can pm me if you want.

Might have to consider this on my 335.

This will make your car stupidly loud and a cop magnet (less so if your car is turbo)

^^Yea...

PE definitely gives out a better sound minus the rasp and drone you would get with a muffler delete.

There is 0 drone with my muffler delete. It's not stupid loud either, infact it is quite tame when cruizing.

^^you have straight pipes on the e39? I have gotten pulled over in toronto for having too loud of an exhaust on my 328 (stock)

Yes sir, I also had BB Triflow on my e34 M5 Which was LOUD, never had issues. Only once their questioned me about my exhaust at a ride check.

You must have a horseshoe up your ass. In toronto cops loved harassing me for everything. I've driven about 80K km's in alberta so far, been pulled over once (drifting the 328, got let off).

Trust me, far from a horse shoe up my ass. I've gotten sooo many tickets and stories its scary. But I just insist its stock, they can't prove otherwise.

Funny thing is, i got pulled over same week i got the muffler delete done on my truck, cop asked me "is this where the muffler should be?" pointing at the new piece of pipe. I told him thats how i got it! He checked for cats and that was it...

PS, its absolutly NOT loud at all, even on the highway...Best $100 mod i have done!

My e90 sounds just as good if not better then the PE and cost a tenth of the price. I cant speak for other cars but on a e90 328 it is amazing. i get compliments all the time. Once at a walmart from a random guy. I got the place to weld on my stock tips so from behind it looks stock. Never had any issues with Police!

Unless you are doing a Brazilian muff delete, it's probably a waste of time. Anything that changes the back pressure of a properly designed exhaust system will be detrimental, although you may think it sounds cool. You should take it to a dyno, do before and after runs with AFR, and see what happens.

muffler mods are purely for sound/experience.

its not a hp mod

Doing AFR's is pointless, your muffler doesn't affect AFR's at all, they will be identical to what they were before.
