View Full Version : The Epic Unbuild of Clint Eastwood

I know you're PROLLY all like, "OH ANOTHER BUILD THREAD PRETTY COOL I GUESS!"

Well shut up, you don't know anything!

I got this pile 0 awesome about October 2010. My stipulations for a car were RWD, cool looking, cheap on insurance and customizable.

So that put E30s, 240SXs, Miatas, AE86s and SC400s in my radar.

Eventually I got this. Clint Eastwood. White on the outside, black and leathery on the inside.

http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5057/5523898568_c18ac6c031_b.jpg

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7035/6469513363_491a41bf7f_b.jpg

I drove it stock for a while. Then I wanted to address some of the issues that it had. Like some body rust. And the diving boards. And the ride height.

I was ****ing around with a new camera and took this neat-o photo.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7024/6469517045_691cdf866b_b.jpg

From there it went downhill. One afternoon, the release bearing went. The car was fairly un-drivable. No, it was fully undrivable. It was undrivable.

The guy who I bought it from offered to fix it for me, if I could get him parts and get the car down to him.

When I got it back, 4.5 months later...there were so many issues with the car it wasn't funny. The huge clutch kit I got wasn't even opened. Only the release bearing was replaced...

The centre support bearing was welded in, there were broken bolts, the exhaust was welded on, with holes on the top of the downpipe. Even the starter was shimmed weird and made a horrible racket.

Summer, I set in repairing all the stuff I could, but from here it was downhill.

Such as blowing a tire at 130 on the 417...

http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6185/6114685209_c4655365ff_b.jpg

I re-did the clutch job, properly. I de-diving boarded the car. I tried to deal with the exhaust. (nope)

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7169/6469366455_67a35ffbe6_b.jpg

At this point, I decided I wanted to get a nicer E30. I've saved up some cash, so I bought this.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7035/6469578463_c2c4023d2b_b.jpg

When I say I saved up, I mean I took $300 out of my savings for a quite clean, running, missing a fender (its on Clint), 325e. And it had good condition Oxblood M3 interior. (yes, bucket rear seats.)

When I realized that a M20B27 is a piece of underpowered shit, I went and got an M50TUB25 from Montreal with 160,000 km on it. For $500, with the E36 steering rack, it was a good deal.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7159/6469365359_d104bbab5a_b.jpg

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7004/6469367039_1110606519_b.jpg

Next I needed a E34 oil pan, pick up and dip stick. So I found a '92 525i being parted out and took the engine for the stealie price of $100. (did have to drive for an hour to get it though)

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7032/6469577261_57bd41241d_b.jpg

In the mean time, I sewed a shift boot and bought a wheel for $90 (Nardi).

ANYWAYS: This new sandy Egyptian colored car is called ANoobIs. Cuz it's a Noob Build, clothed in the fallen skins of the dead. (Mr. Eastwood)

I'm seriously considering keeping the diving boards on it, with the valance of the later model. I'm not sure yet. I do like this car though.

MaxBell
12-06-2011, 11:15 PM
Well, two E30s. One is the DD (white), the other is the swap car (Sandy Egyptian puke). Those last two are just examples of cars with diving boards, and a late model valance.

And 2 M50s.

Yesterday, I finished tearing down the engine. (with some help)

Eww...a bird was living under the motor mount arms?

Getting the crank bolt out. It was scarier when we actually did it. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDgrebphHlg)

The engine is being put together now, since all the parts came in.

You need more. I like the swap car. I want that rear spoiler to add to my collection. I also want those rims too (so that I can shit on them and heave them off a cliff. fuc k those things are ugly).

Your OP is deceiving! I too thought those last pictures were your car(s), and then wondered how the f you bought any of them for 300$ lol

Good luck on the build we need more deets!

Oh and keep the diving boards they're pimp I love mine now -- you can even compress the shocks to make them a bit more subtle if you want

Nicest thing anyone's said to me in a while*wave*.

EXAMPLES OF CARS WITH DIVING BOARDS AND LATE MODEL VALANCES...
Which is of course the long drawn out way of saying "1988"

In a way, I sorta miss my old diving board e30's. I used to bump my buddies in their MKII VW's and e30's at stoplights, but now with plastic bumpers, it's not so much fun anymore... just keep the f uck away from my car with it! (actually, I like when you park near my car. Makes my car look like a million bucks!);)

Anyways, I was working on it again today, and got most of the M50 back together. I just wish I have access to hardcore cleaning solutions. I don't really care what the engine looks like that this point, I just need a car on the road, then I can get all crazy with the optional work.

Question: one oil filter housing is from the E36 M50TU (left) and one is from the E34 M50 NV (right). The VANOS one has a broken power steering bolt in it, while the other doesn't. They're the same part # on RealOEM, but they look different. (especially the VANOS one on the left has that valve at the bottom)

12-09-2011, 01:59 AM
Do you have vano's? If so it probably needs that valve unless its just the bypass for when/if the filter is clogged and won't allow flow.

Looking closely it seems the one on the right has a valve in the same cavity going right to left. If what i'm seeing is the piston/rod for the valve. If that's the case then it shouldn't matter.

MaxBell
12-09-2011, 09:55 AM
Yeh, one engine has VANOS, the one with that black valve, the other is a NV engine. But I didn't even notice the little left right valve at the back. They're the same stupid part number, so I'm gunna say WHATEVER and just bolt it up.

I believe thats a check valve to keep pressure in the vanos system. Also if you hadn't noticed, there a banjo bolt for vanos on the rear of the M50tu filter stand, you need that.

Sam

MaxBell

ALSO: anyone got an info on making my auto E36 harness work with the manual trans?

MaxBell
12-25-2011, 11:43 PM
Hey all;

So Christmas has mostly been a write-off, but I did get the engine back together and the wiring harness mostly finished.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7156/6480194699_fc571099f9_z.jpg

If you're converting an E36 automatic harness to manual, you take the X20 auto connector and follow the wires. More on this in a DIY later...

Also: a oxblood M3 interior will be going into this car. I think it looks good with the bronzit and red pinstripe.

Anyone got oxblood door cards? Or even just black leather?

The holidays are over...BACK TO WORK!!

First I picked up a 2001 Ford Focus to use through the winter. (Clint Eastwood is now being ripped apart for parts)

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7015/6630369151_0d82b50873_z.jpg

PRETTY.

I also got the wiring harness done for the M50. I know it looks like a mess, but it should be pretty turn key!

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7164/6630362359_443145622f_z.jpg

The only wires I am unsure of were ABS, Traction and Stability control from the Auto trans connector to the DME in the glove box. I just sniped them, but left em in the harness in case they are needed later.

I also got the E36 rack in and finished.

Question:
Can anyone comment on difficulty turning if I I was to fill the rack with fluid and looping the lines? (deleting the power steering)

MaxBell
01-04-2012, 02:43 AM
Cuz one of the guys who was helping me out with this build broke a powersteering bolt in the oil filter housing off.

If there was a new oil filter housing for an M50TU laying around, I'd run power steering. Or if I could drill out the bolt or something?

If you wanna run without PS then you want to drain the rack of any hydraulic fluid. It's not there to "lubricate" the rack so you want it empty.

That's too bad! You can't grab it with anything? Excuse the ignorance are the housings interchangeable from the other M/S5x motors?

You should be able to find a new housing even at a scrapyard if that's the only reason you wanted to run a manual rack, may be happier with PS in the long run if you were planning on it in the first place :D

Ps it sux when friends break ur shit eh? I had a friend money shift and blow my head whoops!

I dropped by the scrapyard today, and there were 3 E36s in there. Two have M50s, and one is an M50TUB25, so hopefully it'll work.

I had a Non-Vanos oil housing and it was different, even though realoem.com had it as the same (part numbers matched...) so I'm unsure of the others.

Yep, they're the 15x8s. I had them on 205/45/15 Star Specs. They were very good. I found them VERY light, but strong too. I have a tendancy to bend rims, and these have held up for about 7 months now.

Thanks for the reply! I was looking at the 15x7's with 205/50/15 rubber because I wasn't sure about fitment issues on my car (it's stupid low). Do the 15x8's rub at all? Spacers required?

I went through the first set of rims on it within a week. The second set after about another 3 months. I bent one of my mum's Camry rims over the summer. Idk if it's where I drive or how I drive, but it's bad.

The 15x8s don't rub, but you may be rolling your rear arches if you're much lower then H&R Sports.

Wuzie wanted me to remove and install his windshield, of which I have no experience doing. If someone wants to do this, Speedy quoted him $140.

Update: Got the flywheel back from the machine shop! Apparently it was REALLY bad. The last guys had taken a wire wheel on a drill to it and the machinist said it took 15/1000 to get it smooth.

It's down on the back to change the offset to fit in the M50 + G260, and lightened as well (down to 15 lbs from 19)

Well I take all my machine work (car and motorcycles) to the place on Bronson, across from the McDonald's, beside the Drumond's gas bar. Resurfacing costs $90, but it's perfectly flat, done on a flywheel specific machine.

Dave is great there, highly recommended. (though he is pricey, that flywheel cost me $190 for machining and lightening)

Today my friend Simon and I cut Clint into tiny pieces.

First we cut off the roof, then the backseat and trunk, then the front past the firewall, then the floor out. *shiner*

Much fooling around...

Now, with Clint long gone, work has begun on the (currently unnamed, with a concept title of "Anoobis") coupť.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7153/6758598133_80acff92d4_z.jpg

Finished getting the H&R/Bilstein combo in, with new mounts. E36 steering rack is in as well.

I sat that M50 in the car and it felt good...so good I didn't take a photo. :(

Then I pulled up this (sun bleached to the MAX) rear parcel shelf...

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7175/6758595573_6689966c0f_z.jpg

...and found the party started YEARS ago.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7170/6758600145_db761b5df5_z.jpg

Evidence is pointing to the car landing in Canada somewhere around 2001, then sitting since 2006. We found some club flyers from 2001 in the car, and the change in the ash tray is all mostly 2001.

Little bit of surface rust on the front rad support (dealing with)
Drivers side rockers has some surface (ignore for now)
Drivers side rocker has a hole (dealing with)
Rear valance has a hole on the drivers side (dealing with)
Drivers side rear floor has something funky going on (investigating)

And a little bubble on the sunroof.

The car is from Cali, so it's chillin. I don't feel bad putting money into it.

Got the trans brace from White325i on R3VLimited.com today, so still to do is...

1. Hook up the driveline and brace the tranny.
2. Put the handbrake together.
3. Put the rear brakes on.
4. Redo the brake line from the master to the rear T junction (it's got a hole)
5. FIND WHERE THE **** THE BOX WITH MY MAF AND INTAKE WENT
6. Weld up an exhaust.

Thanks guys! Just an update on what I got done today.

1.
The brakes were bled, except the left front. I kept taking shit apart, but it refused to bleed. Even with the caliper off, there was no fluid and pressure on the brakes.

Eventually I got pissed and kicked the brake pedal HARD. Suddenly a load of brown frothy brake fluid SHOT out of the line onto the floor. A few more hard kicks and it was bleeding no problem.

2.
Got the clutch bled.

3.
Got my exhaust from the downpipes in place. Just have to figure out what I'm doing for the flanges on the start of it. (really tight among the subframe and sway bar)

4.
Got the hood and fenders on.

5.
Found my mirrors and put em on.

6.
Washed some of the car and sanded some of the really bad areas. Still VERY patina.

The exhaust on this car is just being done to save me cash right now. I'll do something more high performance down the road. (when I have time to research what I want)

Just a quick update, more of a interested history update. (if anyone cares about stories like this)

I had to track down the previous owner to sign the bill of sale. Since I bought it from European Auto Care, they had never transfered it into their names.

When I found the owner out in Kanata, he gave me a neat history of the car.

Apparently it was originally owned by a couple who wintered in Florida and got it there. Eventually they imported it into Canada, roughly 10 years ago. From there it found its way into the hands of a wholesaler who had got it in a trade.

BMW Canada wanted a particular 1970s car (2002 or something) and so traded a pile of cars (including my 325e) for it.

It was then sold to the PO by that wholesaler, and he DD'ed it for a while. It started having starting issues so he stored it for a while, tried to sell it to BMWCCO and then eventually just stored it.

He then sold it to European Auto Care since they wanted its tranny. I got it from them, relatively untouched.

M50 swap wham blam and here we are.

T-10 days til the car is on the road.

The last 10 or so years of my E30 are documented pretty well online and I have all the original warranty service books to fill in the earlier gaps.

Yeah, a few years ago there was some brief work on an E30 that ended up being unsuitable. Another was located at some auction trader or something and the BMW club was going to get it cheap to build a race car, but the interest fizzled.

So now you can do whatever you want to it because...

Moderate Sized Update

Ok so it was appraised for $200. :( In "General Comments that Affect Vehicle Value" the guy put "Overall terrible condition, paint quality abysmal".

I guess that's ok? fcplm

After that, I went to get a safety done.

Attention readers: Grandpa's Garage (who we hate) is now Actek Automotive.

They failed the car, which is detailed in my post here (http://www.maxbimmer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=150714).

no passenger side windshield washer spray
broken heater blower (no defrost)
drivers rear floor is too rusty (weak, but not through the car)
left control arm bushing has too much play
no spare tire

So far I have fixed the washer nozzles, the seized blower motor, have prepped the floor and ordered the new bushing.

As I'm in the engine bay, I'm replacing a fuel line that looks a little old and putting the proper E30 temp gauge in.

This one I have from Clint, I think it is the right one.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8015/7194188422_9aff4ee563_z.jpg

I'm not bashing them so much as I'm pissed at my car not being on the road yet. All's well that ends well, since I'm getting a few little things fixed now, rather then leaving them.

I've heard rather bad reviews from others, so I was going off that. Good to hear others have had professional experiences with them. *angel*

Also: question. Are these two M50 injectors the same? They're the same long part number, but different colors and different 3 digit codes at the top.

Just an update regarding the little issues that are still existing with my car.

It was dieing randomly and lopping in it's idle.

SOLUTION: The MAF was dirty.

Now it's missing power over about 2500 rpm, which is constantly repeatable. Everlast (Jay) recommended that it was probably the timing.

I'm going to redo the timing this week and hopefully it will solve any problems.

Now the next stage is PAAAAAAAINT!!!!

The color was going to be Alpine White, then Mineral White. Then it was going to be Sepang Bronze but it's too close to Bronzit (eww).

Finally Porsche Slate Grey (#6401) was decided upon. CHECK IT.

Either way I went out to Chris and Sean's house in Carp and worked on the car there. Chris has cam blocks so we set the timing properly.

Hey so everything is ticking along smoothly.

I had a couple little issues that I'll write down for anyone diagnosing problems later.

1. I went to start the car, but didn't start it all the way. (turned it over for a second and then went back to IGN 2) When I let off the key there was a POP. The car ran terrible, shuddering and stalling after a second or two.

SOLUTION? My hose from the ICV to the intake on the M50 had popped out. Pushing it back in fixed the problem.

2. There are a few grounds in the engine bay that are safe to ground things to. These ones, with those little bolt-able shims/clips, are no good.

http://www.laneautomotive.com/cache/q85_w1024_h1024_images_products_A05_12_ALL18559.jp g

I had a weird bogging issue that seems to be resolved by moving my harness ground to the strut tower, rather than one of those clip things. (on the inside support of the strut tower)

ALSO (thanks to Everlast)

For some discussion, I've figured out the following so far (prepare for some pretty noob shit)

http://i.imgur.com/pgmIq.jpg

Is this accurate to how a supercharger would be set up?

I keep seeing a line from the top of the BOVs I look at. Is this a vacuum line? Where does it hook into?

How much custom tuning do I require? Get BMWConnect to write me a chip that I can put into my DME, or do I need Megasquirt/similar?

How big of an intercooler do I require?

Bullet Ride
06-08-2012, 10:11 AM
Officially I don't think the colour of the injectors means anything. Just go based off of the part number. You can check that they both have the same pintle design and impedance just to be sure.

That diagram is incorrect. The intercooler has to go between the supercharger and the motor. The goal of the intercooler is to remove heat that was added to the charged air from the compression.

The line on the BOV is a vacuum line, it hooks into the same spot where your fuel pressure regulator gets vacuum. When you go off throttle while under boost, once the throttle plate is closed pressure will continue to build between the compressor and the throttle plate unless it has a way to be released. That’s where the BOV comes in, and that’s why it’s vacuum actuated.

Tuning depends on what your plans are. If you are only going to run one boost level then a chip will be ok. However if you ever want to change pulleys for more boost you'll need to get a new chip.

Air to water intercoolers aren't very big to begin with, so I'd say as big as you can fit.

What kind of lbs should I go with? Obviously the stock 17# M50 injectors that are in there are too small. What size should I be going with?

That diagram is incorrect. The intercooler has to go between the supercharger and the motor. The goal of the intercooler is to remove heat that was added to the charged air from the compression.

Does the intercooler go before or after the BOV? Or does it even matter?

So I'd just get a coupling and attach that line to the intake at the same place?

Tuning depends on what your plans are. If you are only going to run one boost level then a chip will be ok. However if you ever want to change pulleys for more boost you'll need to get a new chip..

Which do you think is more cost effective?

How do I choose what pully to run?

Air to water intercoolers aren't very big to begin with, so I'd say as big as you can fit.

These go on the front clip, the same as a regular air intercooler, correct?

So the main things I need to buy for this are:

1. Supercharger
2. Recirculating BOV (like this one) (http://www.quantumautosport.com/qas/shop/images/FORGE_RecirculatingBOV_black.jpg)
3. Air to water Intercooler
4. Pully for the M50 crank
5. Chip
6. Pipes (I found a bunch on ebay, just figure out in the car approx what I need and buy?)
7. Vacuum line for BOV
8. Larger vacuum line for recirculation

Is that generally it?

Now to answer your questions more specifically...

What kind of lbs should I go with? Obviously the stock 17# M50 injectors that are in there are too small. What size should I be going with?

Depends on how much power you are planning on making. Do the few simple calculations found in the links I posted. I'd go for something like a 42# injector. That should be good for around 300whp.

Does the intercooler go before or after the BOV? Or does it even matter?

Some people have a BOV on both sides of the intercooler :P
It doesn't really matter, as long as it's somewhere between the compressor and the throttle body. If you'r plan is to do a recirculating BOV then it would make sense to have it somewhere just past the outlet of the compressor to reduce the amount of plumbing required.

So I'd just get a coupling and attach that line to the intake at the same place?

Yeah you can just T off the FPR or you can drill and tap that little plate that bolts in and add a barb to it

Which do you think is more cost effective?

How do I choose what pully to run?

It depends on how comfortable you think you'd be with tuning. There's plenty of good information and resources out there (including a few of the guys on this board) for those interested in learning to tune. It will take a good amount of time an effort compared to just paying someone else for a chip, but at the end of the day you will have learned some valuable skills. Obviously if you're not comfortable with tuning buying a chip will be the most cost effective, because a mistake while tuning (it would have to be a fairly big muck up) can result in things like a blown head gasket or worse

The pulley will depend on the unit. You'll have to do a bit of research to determine what pulley will give you what psi.

These go on the front clip, the same as a regular air intercooler, correct?

The radiator for the air to water intercooler will have to go on the front clip, but the air to water unit itself is usually tucked in the engine bay somewhere

Here's an M20 with an air to water unit

http://euwerks.com/uploads_user/1000/3/1183.jpg

And a picture of the unit that the M30 TCD kit uses

http://www.turbochargingdynamics.com/tcd_news_04_04_011.jpg

So the main things I need to buy for this are:

1. Supercharger

6. Pipes (I found a bunch on ebay, just figure out in the car approx what I need and buy?)
7. Vacuum line for BOV
8. Larger vacuum line for recirculation

Is that generally it?

3. Is there any reason you are going with air to water instead of air to air? Air to water is more expensive.
4. You need more than a pulley and a belt tensioner. I'd recommend looking at Denny's build. He's already done all the foot work for you.
6. You can buy a kit off ebay that comes with piping and an air to air intercooler for pretty cheap.
8. Whatever the size is that your BOV requires, doesn't have to be vac line, it can be rubber coolant line or w/e.

Ok, so I've been reading through the resources that Bullet Ride posted. All very informative, but it's like information overload. I'm starting to think I'd like to get into tuning, but I'm not sure yet.

In my continuing efforts to fix that weird random bogging problem I replaced the TPS sensor. Nothing.

I cleaned the MFingMAF again and the issue went away. I'm going to look for a new M50 MAF now.

In other news, body work began the other day. I'm just working on one panel at a time. I think the trunk was RED!! Or red primer was used during a respray?

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7094/7360263604_da311d0e88_z.jpg

Trunk > Hood > Fenders > Doors > Body

They're getting sanded, then any small low or high spots will be filled. Dents will be pushed out and, if needed, then filled.

The car will be blocked smooth and checked for more high or low spots. The whole thing will be sprayed with a high build primer and sanded again.

Depending on the surface at that point, it will be primed again and blocked or we will move on to the paint stage.

Paint gets sprayed and then 2 coats of clear will be sprayed. I'm going to then drive it for a few months/store it over the winter so the paint and clear will harden properly.

Next spring when I pull it out, I will start wet sanding it. 1200 > 1500 > 2000 and then polish it to a mirror.

It's going to be a lot of work, but a friend who is helping me achieved this:

If I can offer one tip: do NOT shortcut rust repair. If you think it's "good enough" it's not good enough. If you think it's "overkill", it's adequate. If you think it's "mind blowingly brand new fresh metal with no iron oxide anywhere ever", then its good enough.

There is no buzz kill like a beautiful paint job that rust bubbles 2 months later.

I've gotta set up a time to come tackle the rocker and quarter panel holes.

Are you just going to replace the rockers with replacement parts? There is site from the US with really cheap rockers. You could just cut out the parts you need.

MaxBell
06-11-2012, 11:35 PM
I have clean rockers from Clint. The hole is only about an inch wide, and in a area that has rocker guard.

I'll just cut a stripe out of the rockers and weld in a replacement from the good one I have. Though I'm going to sand it back and make sure it's as small as I think it is.

everlast
06-11-2012, 11:42 PM
Sounds good!! :) Often the rust comes from the inside out, so the spot is much larger on the inside than the outside. You have to keep cutting out / back the hole until you see the metal is solid.

Minor update:

The hood, fenders, trunk and passenger side door are done.

Took some hammering to get the metal smooth on the front fenders, where they were bent and some shoddy body work was done. Almost 2/32 of putty in one place!!

Finished cutting the rear fender/quarter panel rust out. Going to tackle the rocker tomorrow.

The drivers door is going to get a dent puller to fix a larger dent that appeared when it was being moved into Ottawa. *mumble*

Should be ready for priming next weekend!

60% of the body work is done. A few places need some fabrication still, but the car is sanded and filled and blocked, except for those areas.

I though you said it was a broken *main* ground strap? Have you sanded down and reconnected all the main grounds? One at the battery, one at the block, and depending on the car, one more on the passenger side strut tower.

The coolant temp sensor moving should be a clue: there are two sensors on the M20, one for the motor and one for the ECU. Maybe on the M50 it uses the same sensor? If the ECU thought the coolant temperature was significantly higher or lower, it would throw the fuel mixture into disarray. At fully cold, my tune requires 160% of the fuel than at fully warm, for instance.

Imagine the motor suddenly thinks the motor is fully cold (or worse, -40 or whatever the sensor's floor is) or overheated (160 is the sensor ceiling on the m20) and pulls / dumps in fuel. It would run like shit.

Yeh sorry I posted that after the fuel pump turned out to be not the problem.

The car is running perfect now that the grounds are all sanded and tightened down.

So the rear end is the next thing on the list of "shit to do".

Subframe bushings, trailing arm bushings, LSD (rebuilt) and rear brake lines.

Came home and saw this around Ottawa a few times, managed to get a photo of it.

BACK TO WORK.

Cut the subframe out of the car after it was stuck. Then I used this little system to get the top mounts out of the car. Took a few hammer blows and they were out. (with a few days of spraying penetrating oil too)

Got the bushings pressed out of the trailing arms, still waiting to get my diff and subframe back from being sandblasted. They were pretty bad.

While the LSD was out, I took the chance to clean and flip the clutches, should grab and lock much better now! :D

If I had to do it again, I'd have it out much faster. It's not actually that difficult, it just seems like a daunting task. Pull it as the whole assembly tho.

Cormier it took you 30 min to drop the rear and replace your subframe bushing?

Lol took me 2 weekends of biblical efforts to do mine on my old '85... I'm likely paying a shop the one on my vert next year....

Yeh I looked online and people were screwing a 3/8 threaded rod into the bushing and then hammering from above. I needed it out so I cut it out and dealt with the collar things later. Now I just have to get those washers off!

Yeh big surfer, I love the whole culture of Hawaiian surfers.

If you want me to take your subframe out, I will help you do it. Honestly I feel like I could do it very fast next time.

Both sides of mine were severely seized.

Ha well I'm only counting the time spent on the method that worked... I probably spent longer than you did just hitting the stupid subframe with various heavy objects and even putting my whole body weight on it (don't try at home)... Then I figured out I probably need a secret trick ;)

In case anyone is wondering what happened, I posted the build up on R3VLimited, where more people are around. (though this is 14 pages and that one is only 3, so we shall see...)

Either way, here's the build over there. Page 2 is probably where it picks up from here.
