When it comes to a nameplate as storied and successful as the BMW 3 Series, the pressure builds on the storied German automaker with each successive generation. Expectations exponentially rise. Will the Ultimate Driving Machine remain ultimate? Well the sixth-generation, 2012 BMW 3 Series is here, and we're about to find out. From what we've seen of the press kit so far, BMW is continuing to tap dance that line between ever-increasing efficiency demands and the driver's car attributes that helped make the 3 Series -- and by extension BMW -- famous.

I'm quite excited for this. I will actually be attending the BMW 3 Series Hommage (tribute to all 3 series models) and F30 intro at the BMW Museum/World tomorrow evening in Munich. It's a special night in the BMW district and many of their buildings will be open with new or speciality displays, particularly tributes to all generation 3 series, until 2:00 am.

Here is a photo of one room they have setup in the Museum (or one side of one room)

^ wow definitely something I would hit up if I was in Munich!

It seems like the F30 will be a really decent car. I curious to see how the new 3 series will perform with the turbo 4 cylinder powering her. One thing I'm not too keen on, but could grow on me, are the head lights running strait into the grills.

I like this:

I dunno... maybe I could use those side mirrors on my e30...

10-15-2011, 10:32 PM
not impressed with the looks of the car..... was expecting something far better considering with what Audi had been coming out with recently

10-16-2011, 12:36 PM
3, 5, 7 series....whats the difference anymore? They all look the same. Especially the rear end.

10-16-2011, 11:40 PM
I think it looks good, I'll have to go try that 4 cyl when the dealer gets one around here.

10-17-2011, 01:55 PM
wow .. so not interested. I rather have a 1 series then a 3 series boat. These cars have gone more into luxury then sports luxury.

I like the M interior but the rest doesn't look that special.

^^ Could not agree with you more! Look how aggresive and sport the new audi styling is. I expected BMW to follow suit in order to stay competative but this styling just looks boring to me. Barely and different from the current 3 series design

Maybe, if we look into a mirror, and say "Bangle, Bangle, Bangle" 3 times while spinning in a circle while picking our noses, Bangle will return, and fix what BMW has been doing lately.

i wonder how the coupe will look.

i wonder how the coupe will look.

Like this but they will call it the F32 ..

^^ u think thats the actual production model?

i like the E92 front end much better!!, this ones hood curves down too much imo. maybe im used to my E36s flat hood lol

off topic but merc did a great job in their C class coupe.

i like the f30 other than the back. All the rear tail lights in the 3,5,and 7 series are the same. i do like the front end, the way the headlights connect to the grill is really nice. and the eyebrow at the top will surely look nice at night. the interior is where they really did well though. so much more passionate and exciting than the e90. the curved dash is so much more e46 like. and the matching color trims are a great idea. the drivers seat seems much more cockpit like than the e90. the M sport one looks REALLY good as usual. Im sure it will grow on most people just like any replacement of an already great car.

I really like the interior and the rear end is not that different from the other models but they killed it in the front end with that grill, lights and the hood.....changes the attitude of the Bmw that we all love and you just don't have that aggressive feeling!

10-25-2011, 08:15 PM
I Like it, especially the sport interior.

10-30-2011, 09:56 PM
Great looking new platform. Still undecided with the pop up screen. Ironically, my W204 MB C300 had the pop up nav screen and this year, MB has switched to a fixed in dash screen. Wonder if the colour heads up display is an option here in Canada!

I like it -- But from the photos, it looks like a deep refresh of the E9x. Will reserve judgement though.

not impressed with the looks of the car..... was expecting something far better considering with what Audi had been coming out with recently

what you mean? bmw pretty much took on audi's agressiveness now. now audi looks dated and have to redesign their stuff. lol

01-12-2012, 06:08 PM
they released the m sport !

01-12-2012, 08:08 PM
^ Wow, gorgeous.

01-12-2012, 08:11 PM
the m sport bumper just made the car... *mw*

01-16-2012, 08:24 PM
The F30 is growing on me! I also may be starting to think that the F30 is starting to look better than the Audi's.

01-19-2012, 09:06 AM
I like the new dashboard and center console. It's very "different"

As for the people complaining that all the tail lights look the same, look at all BMWs from previous decades. They all have very similar tail lights as well. It's nothing new.

01-19-2012, 05:23 PM
I love that interior! The car looks fantastic to me.

01-19-2012, 05:26 PM
different is good.. imo.

just llook at that audi up there ^^... same chunky fatty body shape for decades..lol

01-26-2012, 12:14 PM
That M-sport looks amazing! I hope they make an M-sport with a diesel.

01-27-2012, 11:15 PM
ugly ugly ugly, stupid pedestrian safety baluga nose ruins the whole car, not to mention lights molesting the kidneys YUCK

01-27-2012, 11:27 PM
that hood line is ugly as hell. reminds me of the lancer..

The Porsche 991 remains the only new car out of Germany I would spend any of my hard earned dollars on...

Driven: The new Porsche 911 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVkWOVeMoYU&feature=related&fb_source=message)

Porsche 911 (991) Top Speed: 300 km/h (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=m_qdHieuKGw&fb_source=message)

The base S is already as fast as the old GT3 around the ring...
