check out what I went for a spin in today, it's not an E30 but still a cool piece of automotive nostalgia. It's not an original abarth cinquecento, the owner converted it himself.

And imagine hill climbing in it.

So wait Steve, you're in Europe, and all you've seen is some weird e30 318i coupe, whatever that is, and a yellow fiat?

Dude, you gotta open your eyes out there!

Also, could you bring me back some Italian 6 button OBC face plates? PLEASE!! .

BMW will only ship french and english ones to Canada.

Lol I've seen like 3 E30's total in the 3 weeks I've been here. There aren't too many old cars on the road here, probably because of TUV regulations. Most people are driving new cars, the only old cars you see on the road are mint classic cars which are probably insured as a collectors car so they are subject to different regulations or something. The only other notable cars I've seen are a few Ferraris (two 599s and an F430) and two mint condition Lancia Delta Integrales, unfortunately it was when we were driving so I didn't have a chance to snap a picture of them.

On another note the rental car we had for the past 3 weeks was a BMW 116d hatchback, I wish they'd bring over the 1 series hatch and the diesel motors (I know the diesel motors are supposed to be coming) to Canada.

as well as this E21 which looked like it hadn't been driven in a couple weeks as it was covered in dust.

Cool pictures. I wonder if the Italy thing is a regional difference. I spent the last week in Northern Italy (between Milan, Lago di Garda, Verona and Venice) and saw tons of old cars, mostly old Fiats, Lancias, ect. but still quite a few old BMW's. That being said, it's not like being in Bavaria where you can see numerous clean E30s (or old BMWs for that matter) daily. The best thing is how clean and solid the bodies on these cars are in all of these areas.

I don't think there are as many E30's in Europe as people think.

I spent 4 weeks there this Summer and I travelled from Paris to Southern Italy totally by train and bus.

I can easily count the number of E30's I saw on both hands. And trust me, I was looking for them!

I have never been to Germany so maybe that's where they are all hiding...

That's so ironic, I was thinking about this thread this morning as I drove through Munich. On a approx. 20km drive, and not intentionally looking out, I saw five. All were quite nice too, only one was say "plain jane".

I will admit though, I feel you see many more in Germany than other places, but like I said, I saw a few of them in N. Italy and I was only there for a few days.

I should definitely start driving around with a camera. Here is a quick example of something I caught the other morning with a friends camera phone as we were leaving the house.
Below it is something else I saw in the neighbourhood the other day. Not exactly a classic, but definitely something special that looked incredible.

I posted in this in the news section, in the thread for the new F30 3-Series launch, but I thought I would add it to this post because the E30 fellas will enjoy the angle of this photo. I will actually be attending the BMW 3 Series Hommage (tribute to all 3 series models) and F30 intro at the BMW Museum/World tomorrow evening in Munich. It's a special night in the BMW district and many of their buildings will be open with new or speciality displays, particularly tributes to all generation 3 series, until 2:00 am.

Here is a photo of one room they have setup in the Museum (or one side of one room). Brand new (or as close as it gets) E30's on display, including M3 and other variants.

Right on, you will have a blast. I took some pictures at the event there last Saturday evening, but will hold back on posting anything so that I don't spoil too many surprises for you. If the hommage to the 3 series is still setup, get ready to see a brand new E30 if you've never before. Do you know what day you're going on?

The finish on the lips is pretty rough. I'll either polish them, or sand them a bit and rattle can them then use them for a set of track rubber.

E30M42cab
10-23-2011, 02:13 AM
Your D-Force rims should be your track rubber. Aren't they a hell of a lot lighter than the style 10's? I already stole your style 10's, so it does't really matter.

Bullet Ride
10-23-2011, 03:00 AM
It's true that they are a lot lighter, but they are also brand new unlike the other rims which are corroded. That's why I'm using them for my street wheels. At some point in time the D-Force rims will probably become track rubber as well.... a set of slicks and a set of R-Comps *par-t*

E30M42cab
10-23-2011, 03:14 AM
Well, if you decide one day that you don't want those ugly style 10's, I could probably find a home for them. Then you can buy another set of D-force or some Team Dynamics for your array of track rubbers.

There's an e36 for sale here in Milton with style 10's right now. I didn't know they made them in 5 bolt.

Here's a cool pic I had to kinda hide & take while at lunch today. I now work on the same street as one of the BMW M & Individual car development headquarters. Ironically my company has an agreement with BMW to share their on-site lunch facilities. At the same time we all signed waivers agreeing to things like not taking any photos in exchange for security clearance cards to enter the facility. I see the craziest stuff imagineable here. Today I saw a F10 M5 with Akrapovic racing decals all over it flying up and down the street with a new M3 spycar following it. The sounds in this area are mind blowing.

BTW, hopefully you don't mind me posting some pics in your thread but if you do let me know and I'll move them. I know it's your vacation thread and all. Cheers

How close are you allowed to get to the cars? I'd really like to sneak a peak under the hood of some of those cars (mainly the racecars). Just crossed my mind, because I saw some really good interior shots from the E30 DTM car on flickr the other day and it made me wonder.

As you can see from the pics it's not like they are roped off. You can get right up close and touch them if you want but unfortunately I don't think you're allowed to get inside them. If you were to ask the right person nicely they might pop the hood for you, but it didn't even cross my mind when I was there. I didn't want to touch the cars and finger print them up.

Jesus, some of those engines look so awesome! how many hours (days) did you spend walking around the place?

Yeah, I loved looking at the engines. When I went back and looked at the pics I took I regretted not taking more pictures of them. I was too busy looking at cool little details and not taking pics. People were probably looking at me weird because everyone was sort of just walking by to motors going "hmm that's a nice looking motor" mean while I'm trying to describe to my friend the mechanical fuel injection system that came on some of the older motors.

I think we were there for about 4 hours.

3 hours spent looking at the M12/13, and the rest of the time walking around in a daze? It looks like they built it and said "Here is our masterpiece. How the hell do we get it to fit in anything?" Is that ever awesome. That M49 looks the tits too... actually, I think I saw one of those in person on sunday.

Lol, pretty much. If you were to redo the exhaust manifold design to position the turbo in a more typical position (up front) you could fit it in an E30 ;). You might have to sacrifice a couple hundred horsepower, but hey, you'll still be making 900hp right *drink*

And this will be the last of the car pictures from my trip as I am heading back to Venice tomorrow where there are no cars.

All of these pictures are from Munich. Munich is definitely a Porsche town there are tons of people driving Porsches here. Also most of the cars are new. I didn't see as many old cars as I saw in Berlin.

Unfortunately I missed getting pics of a Ferrari Testarossa just before I got back to the hostel today. It was moving and I didn't have enough time to get my camera out so I just decided to admire it as it drove by.

^ Hey, are you staying in the Stachus area? near Marineplatz? The background of your pictures looks familiar.

Were the headsets working to listen to the engines when you were at the Museum? when I was there last week they were all having tech. issues except for the set for the M1 engine. But in the other 2 times I've been there I've been able to listen to them all.

Munich is awesome for cars, old and new. If you get a chance before leaving, go to Garching bei München, it's about 15 minutes from where you are and there is a BMW M and Individual production area, you'll see wicked stuff flying around. Today I saw a Alpina E30 there, a E36 ACS S3 Ti, and 2 new F30 3-series (was my first time seeing those on the road).

If you're getting around mostly with the U-bahn and have some time tomorrow before leaving you can also checkout the huge BMW showroom at Frankfurter Ring station. Right now they have candy colored new BMWs in the showroom and just a lot of new BMWs in general.

I'm pretty much right across the street from the hauptbahnhof station. But unfortunately I'm leaving in a couple hours. So I don't have time to see anything else

As I mentioned, I'm returning to Venice today then flying home tomorrow. My picture taking for this trip is done. Sorry gents.

Ahhh, it's good to be home. Went to get my car out of the shed I kept it in while I was gone. Popped the hood to check the oil and there was a mouse starting me in the eyes. Pretty sure they got into the roof because when I pulled it out I heard something rattling around at the front. I popped the check pannel out and there were a couple soy beans lol... great.

w/e I went and put some fresh gas in and went for a drive up to forks of the credit with the windows down to get the smell of shed and mouse out of my car.

It felt good to be behind the wheel of my E30 again...
