$375 is a really good price, even with shipping. When I got my Moonroof+Shipping+Duty it all came out to $570. Installation is simple... adjustment is the time waster.

Someone buy this (not mine).

it is a good deal, but make sure the glass isn`t scratched..as they often can after 20+ years. I bought mine ( glass only) for 470.00 after shipping and duty. and another 130.00 for the seal. so it`s stands to be a great buy.

Good buy, but the sun shade looks like sh1t.

Check the metal sliders that are bonded to the glass ... the adhesive dries out, and the glass becomes detached (ask me how I know)

One side of mine started to rattle at speed and I was able to open the roof (slide it into the roof body) before it became a $500 glass frisbee. Check these often with a glass roof.

Enjoy whomever buys this

I have to get one of mine remounted as when I tried installing it the fit was too tight and my suspicion was because of the new seal. the best thing I know is urethane the glass guys use. those slider you talk about will never come off again. My had been replaced with pre fabed sliders so they used epoxy.

Be careful if you do use that urethane. When I was installing windows on exotic cars (when I was like 17-18) that crap can get all over and make one hell of a mess. There's also another product that is like a black paint that helps it bond even better. That stuff will not get off car paint or anything.

you can use lacquer thinner to remove it while wet. including clothes and fingers.

There are at least a handful that I know of around here: Ceeker and I, Abustiaf had/has one, I think, the guy selling the M10 318i for $17,000 on kijiji, a guy in Hamilton building a v8 e30, a guy with a delphin V8 e30 around Georgetown... there's a bunch. Not something you'd notice as an e30 drives by, but those are just the guys I know of... plus all the e30 guys I don't know with moonroofs. Not crazy rare, but not your everyday.

Looks so nice. I only saw one 2 years ago in the fall at La Peloma before I moved here to Ottawa. Haven't seen one since and I never seen Ceekers even though we've meet up a couple times.

Ernie is like me... we have the stuff, whether you've seen it or not is another story. We stash the stuff more than we use it. The only difference, is that I won't sell any of mine, and Ernie will. Except Ernie will charge you too much for it:D

yeah..but maybe he doesn't care because he has no hair? I mean...I don't, so it's not like I let mine blow around in the wind and I certainly wouldn't chance gluing a top on my head only to have MY top blow off because I had the other top down...:D

Nobody here ever said it was money well spent, haha. Euro grills, plate fillers, Euroweaves, Euro trim, Momo/Nardi/Sparco steering wheels, K&N filters, etc are all a waste of money, but we do it anyways. Anything we do to an e30 is a waste of money, is it not? Hell, buying an e30 in the first place is a waste of money.*mumble*

Wasting money on these cars is actually my specialty. I've spent 2x more on misc parts and repairs on both my cars over the years than what I actually spent purchasing the cars. I figure, over the course of 8 or 9 years that I've driven BMW's (5 of them in total), I've probably spent $40K on these shit boxes over that time period, and that's a conservative estimate. It's really sad actually.

GUYS: Spending money on a hobby that you enjoy, and also gives you transportation seems like a good deal to me...

You'd be crazy to spend your money on something you didn't like...I've spent thousands on skydiving, it was money well spent because I have a blastie!!

I agree; the avg expense for a driver is about 6-8k a year incl repairs, sticker, and insurance. This is a conservative est. So Scott, has gotten away.....ready for this???? SCOTT FREE!!! :D

Oh Oh, we're counting maintenance costs now!!???... Fuk that... I don't do maintenance... That's why my car is never on the track. It looks pretty though. Like I said, $40K is conservative - off the top of my head, and thats not including shop work. I'm mostly just talking about the price of the car, and then the silly shit that I've added to them. I'm into the coupe for over $11k alone, and thats just plain stupid. If you're spending 8K a year on your e30, you're doing it wrong (or right, and your have a sick ass e30), or you're spending it on labour. I wish Randy would chime in here so we can all look like cheapskates.

oooooo...Scott are you getting hot under the collar? hahaha...Just so you don't feel bad I have so far 6k into my vert Not incl the purchase of the car. It would seem alot but it doesn't incl my labour; and what guy who owns one does? new roof, new leather seats, new top end motor, new front end, shocks and springs, shit adds up quickly.. Will I do this again to another e30? not unless I find a buyer to pay me large for all my work. And we know that isn't gonna happen so....lets not all get teary eyed and hug ok...

I thought this was a glass moon roof thread ...

Back on topic ... glass roof in my '89 325i touring ... it lets the sun shine in and I prefer it over the metal roof.

Ceeker

I think the price is only going to go up as less of these cars are available for parting out in Europe and states. Once this happens it's going to be tough to find as most will have them in their cars. And you'll probably pay a HUGE premium to have it.

MaxBell
10-04-2011, 01:30 PM
Ya, but what point will that be? I'm starting to feel like most E30s that have managed to stay on the road til now are all either needing restoration or dismantling.

lgb240
10-04-2011, 03:03 PM
Considering most (all) metal sunroofs will rust eventually, I considered mine a permanent fix for this situation.

Also, given how rare they are, and how many people seem to want one, there will always be a market of some sort for a glass moon roof.

E30M42cab
10-04-2011, 03:55 PM
Thats how I justified buying mine. Even a replacelent roof costs a forture, so why not just buy something that looks cooler, and won't rust? Makes sense to me.
