View Full Version : So it's come to this: For Sale, 1997 BMW 540I

08-17-2011, 10:25 PM
Finally getting around to selling my 540I Sport. It's a 97 with just under 217K kms, six speed, rare "baby, I'm green all over!" green interior, factory HIDs -- heck you guys know the story.

I'm not going to lie and say this thing is perfect -- most of the gang here know my story. The shocks are toast (I can help you get new replacement Sachs from BavAuto thanks to the lifetime guarantee), the thrust arm bushings need doing, I have one newer window regulator that needs adjustment, and the driver's side one is in the process of crapping out. The sunroof is repaired, but needs adjustment. Some rust on the bottom of the doors and on the trunk lip, and front right fender.

To the good, the clutch has less than 10K kms on it, and the water pump, expansion tank and many sensors are recent. I have some spare parts I will throw in as well.

Includes a full set of 16-inch Borbets for winter use, though one is slightly bent.

I would love to keep this car and bring it back up, but I simply don't have the time or location to do so. So, the Green Meanie needs a good, loving home, with a caring owner that can give this car the love it deserves.

Asking $3750 as-is. PM for further details.

With handsome cellular phone! What a conversation piece! :D

I've honestly never EVER seen an all green 540i before. Hello Kermit thee Frog!

G/L with the sale, that's an excellent price!

Thanks -- I don't have room to store it, so I need it to go to its new loving home before winter.

Let's face it, the cell phone alone should be pushing this thing to eleventy bajillion dollars, but I'm not one to capitalize at others' expense. :)

Bump with a new price -- $3250. If I don't get it sold soon, it goes into storage for the winter.

If I had the space, I'd gut it,stance it, fix the rust, paint it flat black and then turn it into the track slut we all know it wants to be.

I miss the power...

Wait a sec, is the dash green? Whoa.

That has crossed my mind too. I'd go camo though, that'd be wicked.

This is one RARE interior! *th-up*
The car is not a Sport tho...Just regular Luxury with 6 spd. *wave*

Very rare interior. Plain ol' black or tan might be an easier sell. But hey, at least is isn't burgundy like my old Thunderbird SC.

And Eurostyle, sorry to say, but I'm pretty sure that if you got a six-speed, you have a sport package. The difference is some early sport packages, like mine, have the chrome trim. The easy way to tell is to look at the stance -- sport package cars sit lower. The VIN reads as a sport package as well.

If I was keeping it, I'd keep it green. I just love the colour. It would look cool murdered out though.

Ironically 5 yrs ago I looked at an amazong clean all original green on green 540 6 here in Montreal. I loved the car and could live with the interior but my Wife refused (was to be her car).

Love the car, very fair price and yes it is sports package, the early e39 sports package did not have sport seats or steering wheel...

The car goes into storage for the winter tomorrow. Perhaps we'll try this again in the spring.

And we're back! The car is out of storage, runs fine, and I got that noise I was hearing taken care of. Price remains at $3250 OBO.
