View Full Version : 5 Series FEELER: E34 Euro M5

04-11-2011, 09:10 AM
Good morning, all of you. Before I part it out (which would be a shame), I'm offering for sale my Euro (germany) E34 M5.
The good: solid body, good euro lights and trim, nice interior (black), clean engine bay, import records including german dyno results. I'm told the engine is good - I'll be testing it within the next week or two.

The bad: needs transmission (535i trans fits) and driveshaft, repainted a non factory dark greenish colour. Stock wheels are gone.

$4000. I know I can get more than that parting it out, but that takes a lot of time, and takes what could be a good M5 off the road.

do you have pics, really interested, also do you have a number i can reach you at?

04-11-2011, 09:53 AM
Yes, please post pics, as well as more about the car's history - such as why it failed emissions several times, and if it has passed since.

04-11-2011, 11:02 AM
I'll try to get detail pics later tonight.
I'm not sure about the E-test history, and am unsure if the car eventually passed. The stock exhaust (including cats) is included.
The plugs are clean and the right colour. The engine is CLEAN under the valvecover.
Email is a good way to reach me: njansenv@gmail.com
Cell is ok, but I won't have it on me until after 5pm. 905 seven four six 3088.

Dibs on the front bumper if you part it. Seriously.

04-11-2011, 03:21 PM
Sign me up for the rear bumper if you part it.

04-11-2011, 03:26 PM
To avoid cluttering up the thread, please PM Part out requests. Note that I AM NOT parting it out at this time.

The question about the front bumper reminded me that it needs replacing, and cannot be reused. I believe it was improperly towed...at least, that's what it looks like.

pictures please?

The seats aren't as faded in person: I think the flash makes it appear a bit worse. No cracking - easy to redye. When I was going to keep it, I was planning to repaint it a factory colour. YMMV.

Looks pretty good from 20 feet!

It's all relative.... The nose piece is pretty chipped too.
This is where it's been since Sept or so: it's a well lit garage if anyone wants to take a closer look.

Are those wheels 16s? I'm surprised they fit over stock M brakes.

04-11-2011, 09:15 PM
Aren't the M5 brakes essentially the same as the 540's? I think those came with 16's.
It's definitely a real M5, if that's what you're wondering....

No, pretty sure 540s have smaller diameter discs.

I'll check tomorrow.

[QUOTE]I'm told the engine is good - I'll be testing it within the next week or two.

does that mean the engine is NOT running at the moment?? from the pics it sure doesn't look like it will run. did u buy the car in this disassemble state & try to fix up, or did u take it apart yourself??

04-12-2011, 08:04 AM
Correct. I purchased it as a project from a shop that intended to use the motor in an E36, but that project was shelved. My intent was to restore it, but I underestimated how busy our "new" (11 month old) little boy would keep me. I also have friend who purchased my southern E30, and who wants to work with me to get that project off the ground. I'm getting rid of the M5 (one way or another) because I simply don't have the time, and the car could sit there for another year or more before getting taken care of...and I really want an early 911.

I pulled the valve cover to adjust the valves and to get an idea of the general condition of the motor. Once the valves are proven to be in spec, I'll do a compression test.

RE: Brakes. I'm told the E34 M5 front rotors are 13mm larger in diameter than the 540i brakes. The rears are the same (540 to M5). Both fit over 16" wheels, depending on geometry. I'll measure the rotors tonight to be sure, and will take pictures.

On another note, my wife found that 525iT on Kijiji last night...and mentioned how neat a M5T would be....

Some more info.
The car was imported in '05. The struts and shock were replaced about 10k (and nearly 4 years ago) as were the front brakes (rotors and pads) and balljoints (?). I'll need to get under the car for a better idea, and didn't have time to measure the brakes today.

16" wheels will definitely fit over the pre 95 E34 M5 brakes.

So far a bunch of inquiries, but nothing serious: any interest in a rolling chassis? (No S38 related gear - ECU, harness, engine, no MC or Brake booster)

Plans are evolving for the E30, though I'll still happily sell it complete.

04-14-2011, 06:25 PM
S38 E30 would be badass.

04-14-2011, 11:21 PM
How much are you thinking for the rolling chassis?

04-16-2011, 07:27 AM
Also note a wide grill on a 90 M5.

AFAIK only Euro S38B38 M5's got the wide grill / hood. Was a conversion done at some time?

Obviously. I noticed that right away, but didn't say anything.

Only the 94+ S38B38 cars got the wide grille/hood. This was a popular upgrade/change in Germany throught he late '90's though.

The body work was "updated" at the front, this isn't a 3.8 car.
I was "thinking" $1900 for the rolling chassis, but there are a few interested parties looking at the car as it sits: I'd like to give them some time yet.
I'll keep the thread updated.

looking for the part# for the wheel ctr caps some closeup pics of wheel and
seperate pics of ctr cap would be greatly apreciated

^ I'll try to get pictures.
On a different note: I fired it up today. It's been parked for ~2years, to the best of my knowledge, but it fired up pretty quickly, and settled into a surprisingly smooth (loud - no exhaust) idle despite the very old gas.
I had to shut it off right away as I found a gas leak where the fuel line mates with the back of the fuel rail.

Lotsa talkers, but no one has come by to take a look at it yet. If there are no offers within the next week, I'm parting it out. (and keeping the S38 for the E30)

Partout has begun. Brakes are spoken for: complete car is no longer for sale.
