Yeah, an M20 needs 5w40 at the least, they run hot and have relatively loose tolerances. I ran 5w40 in the winter and 20w50 in the summer. I assume you're using the lucas because it's consuming oil?

i ran 20w50 in the summer and it still consumed the same amount. Does mobil 1 come in 5w40? That's pretty much the only synthetic i can get out here.

I'm not sure, but I never saw any benefit running synthetic in my e30. 5w30 will work if it's all that's available, the 5w20 is geared towards modern cars as an "energy saver" oil.

if it was -35 regularly where you lived, you'd use syntec too. I'll try 20w50 if i end up keeping it again and report back on the mileage.
