Now with the polygonnal lasso tool we want to outline the whole car
---------------

since there are objects like windows, headlights, windshield, etc we do not want to change the colour of...like stated in the other tutorials hold (ALT) until you see a (-) sign show up on your lasso tool, scroll to where you want to deselection to be made and click on where you want to start...connect the lines...on the other side if you want to add a selection hold shift until you see a (+) sign and scroll to where you want to click, and simply connect the lines.

Thus your selection should look something like this

next..since sometimes the cars come in bright or darker colours, we want to desature it (take out the colour) by going to:

Image > Adjust > Desaturate
---------------------------------------

you can see on this car it will not have much effect but on for example red or yellow cars it will.
-------------------------------------------
Then, go: "Image - Adjust - Color Balance."
From here you can slide the color bar towards the color you want. Remember to click the "Shadows, Midtones, and Highlights" option in the same box and move those sliders as well.

There are more ways than just clour balance like:

Image > Adjust > Replace Colour / Selective Colour / Variations
----------------

You may want to play with brightness/contrast as well as playing with the "Levels" and "Curves" to tweak your color to match your liking. These options are also found under Image > Adjust.

Another tip (maybe I can provide a screenshot of this sometime), is to select the car like you show in pic #2, convert the selection to greyscale for proper shading, then copy, and paste into a new layer. Fill in the newly pasted shape with the colour you want to use (detail is null, just fill the whole shape in with a solid colour) Then, blend the two layers by choosing Hard Light, or Soft light, and tweak the transparency.
