Diving through the parking lot to see a dentist in ottawa and got unexpectedly acquainted with this speed bump from hell!!!!

As I bottomed out and hit my frame hard on the 18 inch tall bump from hell I heard a THUMP...... thought nothing of it..... then when I got in and tried to start the return trip home I noticed I had lost and was still losing losing clutch juice. now its empty :( car is parked..... is this a fix it myself? or better take it into see the duss brothers ???

Clutch juice?

I'm assuming you mean you're losing brake fluid? Or transmission fluid?

What color is it.

It's impossible to tell if you can fix something yourself without even knowing what the problem is...

yep, that red 'liquid' type substance commonly known to the layman as 'tranny fluid' !!

ive blown clutch components before, but never had issues caused by speed bumps. maybe the impact knocked my slave cyl loose.... but thats just an un educated guess

Sounds you've damaged the transmission. Big time.

It wouldn't have anything to do with the clutch or slave.

I'd get under the car and check that out asap. Don't drive the car.

my frame hard on the 18 inch tall bump from hell

You must have 50" wheels to be able to get over an 18" tall speed bump...

LoL you'd think so but no. its sloped on either side, just enough so you can get your self into position to smash your transmission : (

ALL right you scared me enough. damn,,,,, I hope it aint the tranny but this weekend I'll push it out onto the road and call C.A.A (I got one free tow!!!)... if it turns out to be the tranny I'll just buy the 6 speed off ebay for 1500 and put that in.... might be cheaper then replacing my 5spd ??

10-20-2010, 07:57 AM
you can get a 5psd for a lot less, i have one that might fit

5spd is under $500 for one in excellent condition.......

Where exactly was this bump?... Don't jump to conclusions yet about the tranny... You don't even know the exact problem yet.

zerosignal
10-20-2010, 04:36 PM
The bump in question is located at te corner of Clyde and Baseline... in the parking lot of the dentists there.... also an audio store, convince store and a burger king!

Im gona push it out onto the road so I can use my free CAA tow to get in down to the duss brothers in west borough, good shop, fair prices.... they dont start over charging just because its a bmw. Fingers crossed its something nice and cheap to fix : )

Think if I pour a bottle of tranny juice into the res and leave it for a few hours to work its way down I'd get a little bit of clutch? maybe just jump start it in second and power shift the rest of the way? (camon green lights!)

dannyb
10-21-2010, 01:24 PM
you dont have a reservoir for transmission fluid, the only reservoir with red fluid would be the power steering.

I wouldn't bother lol. I'm pretty sure this guy is just messing with us.

Yo guy, you should check your halogen fluid, sometimes that affects the transmission slop. If that doesn't work you can always try changing the air in the airbags. Distributes the weight better.

Air actually has weight inside a tire :P

Yes, and since my spare tire is flat there is less weight on the rear end... hence lots of tail happy dorifto action

hahaaha guess i better go apply my turbo sticker and cai (+ 15hp) asap, I thought the clutch res was shared with the brakes...... or power steering or something,

if you scraped that badly you probably scuffed and ruined your muffler bearings too. id check that out while under the car

LOL my muffler bearings should be fine I just greased them like last week. I'll take it on my next pay and get my baby diagnosed by the professionals

I still maintain the idea that nobody truly knows what a speedbump is until you've been to NS. I frequently scrape my oil pan at stock ride height...

tg07lq
12-17-2010, 02:23 PM
dont forget that chick that went all baja-bmw in her x-? in that parking lot !

my best yet was having to call CAA to get them to tow me off a speedbump in my neighborhood.
shortly there after i sold the truck lol. static dropped s10 was fun, but in no way practical

What can you do if you break your car (let's say stock height) because of a hump.. Can you complain to the city?

tg07lq
12-20-2010, 03:14 PM
you can complain, they probably wont do anything other than say you were going to fast though, if your anything but stock height they wouldnt even entertain it i wouldnt think

iverson03tj
12-20-2010, 03:47 PM
My driveway is too steep, that even cars are stock height have a problem.. is there a way i could maybe change that... like tell the city to do it??

///M318ti
12-22-2010, 08:51 AM
Uhm, if you want a temporary tip, put a thick wood plate so it will be less steep.. Best : metal plate! The only thing the city will do (if they ever do anything) if adding cement. :/
