View Full Version : Grill insert question
10-08-2010, 03:09 PM
again - I did a search and found some similar threads, but didn't answer the question, so sorry if I am repeating.
The driver's side grill 'kidney' (I believe you guys call it) has some of the slats broken near the bottom. How difficult is it to a) find replacments and b) replace just the black 'slat' inserts for the grills?
Do you need to remove the chrome and everything, or do they pop out somehow?
and is there a good supplier or am I going to have to eBay it?

the whole grill is one peice per side,
just pops out, check the web site www.realoem.com , they have exploded diagrams for every part on just about every BMW ever made. Very helpfull website for figuring out how to take things aparts, or more importantly, how to put it back together once you have taken it apart.

If you need new nostrils (grills) I have a set for sale. PM me and we'll talk. They're in very good condition.

You should be aware that there are 2 types. Pre96 and 96+. The pre 96 have thinner outer chrome so they look a little different and won't fit a 96+ nosepanel.

hey they dont just pull or "pop" out.
-first remove your head lights both sides 5 8 mm bolts 3 on top and 2 on each side.
-then the whole nose panel needs to come out 2 8 mm bolts on the inner fenders on each side 4 torx nuts were the hood pins go and 4 more 10mm bolds on the rad support, then the nose panel should slide right out
-then on the back side of the nose panal you will see the little clips that you need to seperate, use a small flat head screw driver and i do mean a small one, be gentle cuz the clips will break
