Ok. i had my magnaflow muffler. sound was ok, sent it back for warranty as the hanger broke off. now im up for grabs on which muffler to get. i was thinking the rogue engineering dms muffler. was wondering if any of you guys have this or heard it in reallife. what im worried about most is the droning. the magnaflow had zero drone on the highway. the sound just wasnt for me. ive heard the famous uuc muffler has virtually no highway drone, but it seems like the rogue has such a nice scream.
le me know what you guys think from your experiences. im still new to the bmw world.
Thanks in advance

I was looking at the rsc corsa aswell. But it seems like the rogue engineering exhaust is better bang for you buck. Looks the same, and from sound clips I'm liking the rogue. But sound clips never give you the original sound. But they both sound damn loud. Dunno if I like that part of it...cops are bored in york region

I've got a Dinan. Considering going back to stock. Exhausts are starting to sound so fake.

Don't get the RSC. I have it on my racecar and I had to add a 2nd muffler because it's too loud for a ****in racetrack (granted for the noise-limited ones but still). It's probably quieter with cats but I would not use it on the street. Get something with baffles.

At least our cars sound good with exhausts. Stock is nice though, you don't draw unwanted attention and it still sounds nice at WOT.

it goes well with my S52. Nice bark when you want to be loud, but zero drone when you're running steady

I disagree wholeheartedly. E36s sound like friggin' trucks with an exhaust. Sounds like a ford ranger or a dodge ram with falling off/non existant mufflers. Even the big UPS trucks sound similar! I hate them, and always will. Part of the reason I will never do a 24v motor swap to my E30.

Only way an M/S5x motor can redeem itself for sound is with lots of fancy cams, compression, good choice of headers and no cats. IMHO of course ;)

Otherwise, stock is where its at!

Are you serious? Regular e36s I would agree but have you heard the scream of an E36 M3? I like it even better than the E46 M3 (with the exception of the CSL)

Are we talking about a Euro M3 or North American?

Because a North American M3 sounds pretty similar to an M50 or M52. Exhaust side that is.

Oh I'm damn serious. E36 M3s barely sound any different than regular E36s.

The only good sounding BMW small 6cyl that is 24v are the Euro S50s and the S54. Those are hard to screw up.

^ you are correct. Conclusion: Best exhaust for an E36 is an S50 or S54 Swap :)

You guys must be talking about after market exhaust cause my gf's mom's 328i e36 with stock exhaust doesn't scream nearly as nice or as loud as my m3 which also has stock exhaust

i think ive come to the conclusion that im gonna put some money into speed instead...as much as i want the car loud, i want it quiet. car sounds awesome with the stock exhaust. so i think im gonna put the $1000 it costs for basically any exhaust and get some real performance work. thanks for all the input.
and the reason why i was so picky about an exhaust is because i want to get away from that civic sound. even when i had a civic i made sure it didnt sound like one. and most 3 series ive heard on the street, e36 and e46 sound like a civic with an exhaust on it. To me, the money thats spent on an exhaust for the street isnt worth the power gain.

You guys are all smoking some good shit.
Without major mods S54 is one of the worst sounding engines out there. That raspy sound is just horrible.

S50B30 sounds pretty much the same as M5x/S5xUS, except it can rev higher.

Nahhh Vlad, you sir are smoking the good stuff. You are saying that your car in that first AutoX video sounds the same as Charlies E36?!! Euro S50s sound way more raspy, metallic, and not near as much bass as a US spec M/S5x. Ironically, your car makes the same deep, truck sound I was describing earlier. :P

Randy's car is a bit of a different example because it has headers and a fairly large dual pipe system. Most of the sound difference is a result of the headers, like I mentioned before. I would assume it revved a bit higher than stock, which is why blended all together it sounded really good

+infinity*2 In fact, I can't think of a decent sounding S54 WITH major mods (except maybe a turbo to shut it the hell up).

S50B30 sounds pretty much the same as M5x/S5xUS, except it can rev higher.

Also agreed. I saw that video many times before I met Charlie, and it wasn't until I saw the car that I realized it's an S50.

Rudy, I don't know what kind of trucks you've been hanging around. I'd take the sound of a 24v any day over the sound of a camel getting raped that comes out of an M20 being wound up. *wiggle* Now go buy an S52.

You can't honestly tell me there's nothing similar about the two. That is what I think about when I hear E36 and non-stock exhaust in the same sentence/subject, etc.

PS. I don't need an S52 to go fast :D all you guys need all the help you can get at the racetrack to catch up to meeee :P *angel* lol j/k... but srsly. http://www.maxbimmer.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=14927&stc=1&d=1050090547

I dont see an exhaust on it..just pipes

My dinan muffler (stock headers, stock midsection) sounds nothing like that.

I do agree the euro/S54 do sound sick with the right exhaust, otherwise i hate the "rattling tin" type of sound on stock S54.

ive heard the borla cat back, and it sounds pretty sick. but i just dont like the surprise of buying a new exhaust. It has to be one of the worst things to spent over $600 and not enjoy it. i would love to have a louder throaty scream at high rpm, no highway drone, and basically no noise during city driving. That is just too good to be true

M3 one, with a partly gutted Muffler(i was told you could gutted it and fill it with fibreglass packing? if im not mistaken)... i read its suppose to sound rediculously good... helps with the higway drone.

When I got my 325is it had a single in dual out magna flow which sounded like ass, and was way too load. It was quickly changed with a 328 muffler, which is one of the heaviest mufflers I have ever seen. I picked up a dual in dual out magnaflow and it sounds so much better, not truck like at all. Car has stock manifolds and cat sections. Main reason I changed it was for weight savings but love the way it sounds. This may change next summer as I plan on cams/header/CIA.
