M50 idle problem

I have just purchased an m50 e36 for a swap into an e30. The car with the maf unplugged will start and the idle will jump from 500 to 1000 repeatedly. When I plug the maf in the car starts but stalls almost immediately. I have changed maf's and the same problem occurs. Another thing is the O2 is unplugged. would that cause this?

Any suggestions?

I disconnected the tps and the car red-lined right away....... checked all of the ignition coils are good

if anybody else has this issue it is a vacuum leak followed by a throttle cable that was a bit tight.
