Really, you can't buy the wp pro 12 pots in orange?

you can get them anodized any colour you like, just like Sickbimmers blue calipers, it suppose to match the car LSB colour.

Is that an option from the manufacturer?

Car looks much nicer in that colour than before - I always thought it was 6spd though! Those plate frames have gotta go ;)

LOL! I'm back, you haters.

It's tough to tell cuz of the lighting variables, but that's probably one of Grigio Proteus or Grigio Avalon ;) I'm gonna go with Grigio Proteus.

Update for you guys. The 6-speed swap is just about complete (just waiting on a special order brake pedal from BMW, should be in today), and it was a lot more complicated than you'd think. The physical fitting of the transmission, clutch, flywheel, pedal box and shifter hardware is by far the easiest portion; the software programming to make the various modules of the car understand what you have done to it is downright daunting! Mike of course took it in stride, and the car is now running with the 6-speed as it would straight from the factory.

We are now well into the next big step with this car, which is timing chain replacement. We have heard of many M62 (540i, 740i) owners in the GTA looking for this service; we have all of the special tools, knowledge base and PC hardware to complete this job.

I'll leave you guys with the following shot of Chigga's torn-down M62B44. We gets busy! *rockout*

Sports also, same motor.

Thats what I thought. For all who don't know what are some signs that this needs to be done and what should you look out for?

Mystikal

Noise, rough idle, power loss...it would be fairly obvious. The loud rattle would be the most unique symptom.

Very nice job, looks perfect.

Someone should get you guys to do that swap on their E38 740i sport. That would be badass.

From what I've read, a lot of people considered that swap impossible/not worth it due to the electronics, so congrats!

Mike needs to do a S54 swap into an E30 m or non m. Everyone makes it out to be super complicated. I've done a lot of research on it. Doesn't seem too much more complicated then an OBD-II swap. Mind you I love wiring.

And this is a dumb question, whats the difference between a 540i and iA?

(Edit: I have a feeling it's automatic.. I feel dumb)

^^^ correct. 5 points!

For sure Sam, an E30 S54 swap would be no problem at all. We can't wait to complete such a project (or E21, or 2002...)

SamE30e
09-10-2010, 07:50 PM
E21 would be pretty awesome. I haven't seen that yet, but I think the 2002 is too small of a chassis and it would look kind of hacked in there, because you'd have to either mess with the firewall or cut out the rad support. An M20 is a strech into a 2002, I couldn't imagine a S54.

E21 S54 all the way. With some big flares out back and a super wide tire.

richie_s999
09-10-2010, 08:09 PM
If a m20 and a m50 are the same length, the should be no problem in a 2002, as I beleive the white and purple 2002 has a m20 that's been out this year at the cruises, the 3.5 m30 would be a problem though

SamE30e
09-10-2010, 08:26 PM
S54 is a bit longer then a M50 I think. I might be wrong. M20 still requires cutting the rad support in a E21, and 2002. But I think the E21 still has more room. A S54 E28 would be pretty bad ass.

I was thinking about that (s54 e28)-- not that it is something I could afford but you know how it is-- but I don't think it's doable without a lot of custom fabrication. Won't work with the e28 subframe.

Euro s50 on the other hand...

SamE30e
09-13-2010, 03:21 PM
The S54 bolts in the same as a S5x, which bolts in the same as a M5x.

At least thats what I've gathered. The only thing you don't retain is the dual pickup oil pan, because you use a E34 pan.

I might be wrong.

nonlocal
09-13-2010, 03:44 PM
Ah, I didn't think the e34 oilpan would fit the dual pickup s54?

Sorry for threadjack.

M20 fits without cutting (into an E21). They made factory 323i in Europe.

Motor work and tranny swap have been completed. I'll hopefully snap some pics of the interior once the shift boot arrives, but check out the e-test after all the work was completed. Healthy V8 now! *th-up*

Any mileage correlation to the symptoms?

Mystikal
09-15-2010, 12:53 PM
The higher the mileage, the greater the chances that the chain is the cause of the symptoms I mentioned. Honestly the noise and incorrect timing should be blatantly obvious, to the point where you'd be going to see your technician to check the car anyway.

It's just that once your mechanic says what's wrong then admits they either a) cannot perform the job or b) that it will cost $4000+ to fix is the moment when you call us. :)
