View Full Version : my big fat idea

So I'm tired of wasting my bass in the trunk of my car. More than half the tightness of it all is lost reverberating in the boot.. and all I get in the cabin is sloppy seconds after my spare tire and jack have enjoyed the solid bass notes.
And its not that my equipment is crap, I've got good stuff.
I want to fabricate a custom "channel" that directs the sound from the face of my sub woofer box directly through my ski-pass into the cabin of my car.
I can work with both fiberglass and wood.
has anyone done this?
any thoughts to share?

yes u can build a box where the subs are facing eachother but it has to be built to sub specks and the port of the box is ported to the ski opening.

you get better bass if you use your trunk as an additional enclosure. Dynamat the shit out of your trunk under the carpets/lid, and it will sound great.

That is called a Triple bandpass and that means your frequency is change of the main box...the math is crazy to do what you are asking for,but if you are very good in math you are ok ...

Put the subs in the rear deck (infinite baffle) and use the trunk as the enclosure. But this means you have to seal up the trunk from the cabin so you don't get cancelation. You can get crazy bass this way, no box required, and hardly any impact on your trunk space.
Buddy of mine did four 8" across his rear deck and it was awesome. Bass notes bounced off the rear window and smacked him in the back of the head like a truck *shiner*

I've got my interior gutted currently and am somewhat planning on leaving the whole back seat out. I'm envisioning two subs in a sealed box/wall, which used to be the backrest part of the seat, and then a carpeted wood "floor", where the butt part of the seat was. _// <-- Sorta like that, where the space between // would be where the meat of the subs would be.
Guessin' you wouldn't be too keen on rippin' your backseat out, but just throwin' it out there.

"krazy"............. that's ok but for all that work, you should put a LOT more subs in there. At least four 10" or 12". If it was me, I'd go for eight 10"........... do something insane if you are going to do all that work. Four 10" on the seat back and four 10" on the butt cushion. Go for some damage.

Haha, we'll see how that goes. As much as I love vibrating the phlem loose from my throat, I'm not sure it'd be worth the effort to put that much in there. That and my bank account probably wouldn't like it that much, either.
Hoping to get my hands on some of those red Volfenhag "German" subs to show off back there. I've got one 12" dvc that I got from a friend, but it's a little too beat up looking to put into my Kraut-rocket. Maybe two 12's and one 15? Heh heh.
Oh yeah. Ideally I'd keep the bottom shelf/tray clear so that I can use it to hold things. We'll see. I 'spose I'd still have a completely empty trunk.
