So for about a month or so I noticed my motor/tranny felt like it was chattering like crazy starting in 1st or reverse. I was about to buy a clutch and flywheel when I decided to do a checkup underneath the car and found this...

Torn engine mount...

Ripped right out of the front subframe

Both sides

Might be something for e36 guys to check up on.

anybody who tracks should weld in front subf reinforcement kit (http://www.turnermotorsport.com/html/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=TDR3675301)to prevent this

+1.

The E30 is very much in the same sort of situation with motor mount tabs cracking entirely right off the subframe.

Had a racer tell me to inspect these once. I did and sure enough, mine were starting to crack. Pulled my entire front end apart and made my own reinforcements (made templates off of Turner's site). I went with the Vorshlag engine mounts (stiff ones) as my car only sees track. Did the tranny bushings from Vorshlag too. Just got the rear subframe done with Powerflex race. Car is nice and tight :)

Doing the reinforcements is well worth the peace of mind. Seems BMW made this subframe to accommodate a few different mounts. You only need two holes for your mounts.

Cheers

are you getting a shitload of vibration now with those mounts? I don't trust these hydraulic stock ones a single bit. I already blew them out by hitting the exhaust off a curb(going about 60 sideways before loosing the rear end)

well after 20 years of pounding on the car whatcha expect??? metal weakens, fatigue sets in and of course lets not forget rust and the decomposition of the rubber. so give the bmw's a li'l we bit o break. :moon:
