hi you guy in need some help. i was wondering the major difference is between a 325e and a 325i?, how much more horse power, torque, and acceration. i couldent find any major differences and i saw in a book that the engine are the same. what can i do to get my 325e to act more like an "i" with the exception of intake or exhust.

thanks i know you guys can answer my question

I think the "e" has more torque and the "I" is little more responsive Im not sure about what it is your looking for to get out of the motor more hp or more torque so I cant really answer your question ive heard you can switch the heads around though.

the E has something like 130HP and loads of torque. The I has 168hp and slightly less torque. The E revs very low. It is in my opinion not a good motor. It sucks gas like a 6 cylinder but gives you 4cyl performance 9not a good 4 cyl at that)

get an I if you are looking

Ryan, what are you talking about that it sucks gas as 6cyl?
ETA is economical version of Bimmer, which suck much less gas than I

yah, since the eta is more fuel economic... its also not fuel injected such as the 325i "i" as in

not fuel injected are u kidding?

read http://www.e30eta.com/

the eta motor is a very strong long lasting motor

the e got 121hp a 4250 rpm and 172lb-pi torque a 3250. i torque a lot.. and got a nice start in citie it's a nice car to drive. but nothing high performance! but put a jim C chip and power increase enough for a lot of fun! and Yes it fuel injected!( it got a oxygen sensor like other Injected car.. i know mine dead :-( ) it's a low friction engine with 5 cam bearign instead of seven and many big difference with de I 2.5L

ok, I was wrong. The ETA is quite good on gas, 11.76 kilometers to a liter (28MPG) The 325i is closer to around 8.6 kilometers a liter(20MPG).

This is taken from e30forum.net:

The main differences between the 325i and the 325e are in the engine. Although both models have engines from the same M20 family, the 325e had more displacement (2.7 liters versus the 325i's 2.5) but drastically less horsepower. The 325e redlines at a very low 4800 RPM and only had 121 hp @ 4250 RPM but 174 lb-ft of torque @ 3250 RPM and an incredibly flat powerband to compensate. The "e" stood for "eta," which is the Greek letter for efficiency and was the theme for the 325e. It also had a very conservative 2.93 rear gear (2.79 in the earlier models) to allow low freeway RPMs and higher gas mileage; in contrast, the sport oriented 325i had a much shorter 3.73 rear end (4.10 in automatics). Although the "i" models had a smaller displacement engine, it had much more horsepower: 167 horsepower, 164 lb-ft torque and a higher compression ratio (9.7 vs 9.0). As a result of its peaky powerband, the "i" also had a higher redline at 6700 RPM.

hopefully this answers sopme of your questions

I have an "e" and it is fuel injected..... where you going?

The eta motor is a 2.7 litre with (stock) 121 hp and 172 ft lbs of torque... the is a low rev'ing motor.... the "I" motor is a 2.5 litre and (stcok) has 168 hp with a 143 ft lbs of torque... i am not 100% sure on the "I" specs, but I have put a chip in my "e" and am now @ 141 hp and 192 ft lbs of torque.... I love my "e" and you can always do the 'I' head swap to get higher revs and more power... if it is a Super "E" then you will probably not notice a major difference... but I can't let go of me "e".

:D

I had many chances of getting an "i" engine for my 325e but it never made sence to me...I just love the torque on those cars! The engines last forever, if they go you can find one for next to nothing...With a few mods it can be just as fast as an "i" or even an E36.

eurostyle, what type of mods?

On mine I had a chip, exhaust, intake, pressure regulator, 3:91 diff, short shifter. If I was to do it again I'll use bigger TB, injectors, AFM, "i" intake, "i" headers/downpipe, no fan, lighter flywheel...And if you are lucky to get one (like I did!) the 524TD crank and turbo!!!
