I might have an option of picking up an another e46 for parts and was thinking of getting another e36 to swap the motor into it. The problem I'm having the e46 is an automatic, would a manual tranny from a 96+ 325 motor bolt right on to a e46 330 ? Also would I need to do alot of work to get the motor running in the e36 body ?

This would be my "winter project" but if it requires way to much of work I might pass on it, don't want to go over my head with this one. Don't want to take two cars apart and not finish any, I'm very OCD and can't start something and not finish it.

Much better option: http://www.maxbimmer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=135196

In regards to your original question, a 6cylinder manual transmission will bolt up fine. You will need a flywheel from an e46 330 or aftermarket.

Electronics wise, you'll need the harness, ecu from a manual transmission car, matching ews, key, drive by wire throttle, etc. You will also need to re-program the ECU to run without DSC otherwise it will run in limp mode all the time.

Good luck!

Thank You for the info, now I'm just going to look for a 5 spd harness, if I do find one, I'll go ahead with the build.

Don't forget the ECU reprogramming to remove DSC is not trivial...
