Last night I was kinda bored so i went out for a drive around 9:30....after about an hour i seen this red grand prix gt kinda driving like a formula 1 driver, so i caught up to him and then waited till the next light...after getting a light i looked at him and he smiled at me, i dont know why but anyways, as soon as we seen the light change to green we killed it...but there was one problem, the lane i was in ended several meters ahead...so i jhad to give it all i had and i beat him by a car length and then smiled at him at the next light just like he did to me before...pretty funny to me cause he got his ass handed to him....it was a 2000 Grand Prix GT 4 door...they got 200hp according to a few sites i been to...

I think he could beat a Grand prix. Is you car stick? Was the grand prix stick?

Lennon
03-28-2003, 08:19 PM
It was Auto, all new grand prix's are. I dunno about the older ones, but the new ones are all auto. Stilll, with auto, he woulda spanked ya

Uhh Lenon I dunno what your smoking, maybe a grand prix would jack it if it was a 325E, but a 325i would murder a grand prix off the line.

Especially if this wasnt the supercharged one. I lined up against my buddies super charged one (240 horse) and I destroyed it without a doubt off the line.

But when we went at it rolling , I was in 4th and downed it into 3rd and he smoked me in my 325is. too bad I wasnt in my M3 *uzi* American CArs

Grand Prix's are far from "Grand prix" they are slow, plastic boats. E30 325's will eat em for breakfast.

Oh yeah? My bad then, I didn't know there was a huge difference between the "e" and the "i" models as far as power, mine had 121 hp, how much do the "i" have? And yeah, your right, the grand prix's ate me up.

NO CHANCE, i've got my ass HANDED to me against a GTP although it had 240HP and the regualr GT's have 200 it still woulda SMOKED YOU!!!

Lil'Smoothie
03-28-2003, 09:00 PM
Lenon a stock 325i has 168 horse

My 325is had a chip andcat back exhaust, so maybe around 175 hp. Remember the Grand Prix weighs aroung 3500 pounds.

Soldomatic, the E36 325i is not much faster than the E30 325i. Did you race this guy off the line or rolling?

M50E30
03-28-2003, 10:13 PM
Well first off you need torque to get good 0-60 times not horsepower. The 325e has 170lbs/feet and the Gran Prix GT has 225lbs/feet. If you caught the guy sleeping off the line and it wasn't a long "race" then there is a possibility of beeting him.

FastM3
03-29-2003, 03:07 AM
my car is standard and since my dad is a mechanic he twekaed the car ever since we had it...it's faster then a stock e3o even though it still kinda is....anyways, his was auto because all the new ones come auto, his car is HUGE and they aren't that fast just like Slowered318 said...i beat him off the start and he was catching up but as i put it in 4th i kept lead then switched lanes....it is possible for E30's to beat 200 hp cars believe me!

Spartiatis
03-29-2003, 03:56 AM
I smoked a 95 eagle talon turbo in my 325is, not once, not twice but on 5 different occasions! Those have 210 hp.

windsor318is
03-29-2003, 04:06 AM
i think its possible, ive beat an oldsmobile intrigue light to light, its got the same 200hp 3.8. a guy i work with blew the doors off me in his GTP, pretty fast cars they run 14.5 stock 1/4 mile (he ran it, not blowing smoke)

Soldo
03-29-2003, 04:31 AM
Ya the turbo talons are slow do to the added weight of the AWD system they have!!
and how much does YOUR CAR WEIGH?!

Slowered318
03-29-2003, 01:28 PM
I raced a 325 (driven by Maverick) with my 200 hp Audi A4 they were both standard. And much to my surprise the 325 smoked me off the line and beat me through 2nd, and 3rd, i was holding my own but we didn't get into 4th where i might have pulled back in front. that's how I know the 325 can beat the larger 190-220 hp cars.

FastM3
03-29-2003, 06:43 PM
i dont think how much HP a car has matters, well of course if it's a 500 hp but what i mean is that torque and weight is more important, and those 2 factors is why i won....

Lee,

Woah! An E30 rock an E36? I'd pay to see that! LOL! :D Why do you think I put in an M50 into the E30 chassis?!?!

Dave

Lil'Smoothie
03-29-2003, 08:33 PM
Dave I took an e36 4 door 325i off the line. His is a little faster after 3rd gear however. This was also before I had a chip in my old 325is. I also murdered an e46 4 dr 325i. The newer series got heavier each yr.

As for a 328is vs e30 325i, the e30 would get raped. I'm assuming the reason you put the M50 into your chasis was because:

1-It is a better engine and makes the car faster than an E36 because it's in a lighter car.
2-Reliabilty, lower milage, better fuel consumption
3-A used M20 would still be a pretty penny to install, might as well get a newer engine
4-M50 engine has a wider array of mods, also it is alot easier and cheaper to maintain (I assume)

Big deal. There are so many variables when it comes down to 0-60 times (transmission, power-to-weight-ratio, tires, and the most important...driver). There is life beyond 1320 ft.

I'm bored of "off the line" races. It doesn't really start untill you have hit 3rd gear and the twisty roads....wait....I mean track. ;)

Gand PrixsARE NOT SLOW, MY SC GTP was Running 13's and I have seen many NA GT's running 13 as well so their not slow,

you just ahve ot know how ot launch it, with thats much TQ its hard not to spin wheels. I have beateb E36 M3's with my modded GTP. not an easy kill but a kill is a Kill.

i dont understand why i would lie though....i wouldn't make up something like this...like im serious i beat the guy fair and square....GP GT's are slow man, they are too heavy and dont have the torque....and ya why are all the E36 guys thinking it's bullshit....

MP328
03-30-2003, 03:52 AM
i'm not saying that u are lying. u ended in front of the guy before the lane ended. all i'm saying is that he probably let u get in front of him and did not push it all the way.

Harpree, I'll try and get a Grand Prix from my work. We have a couple of them laying around but not sure if they will be there. I must agree with Jatdee328 that Grand Prix are not slow. The Auto tranny on those things is geared pretty good for 0-60. Even highway driving they are good

FastM3
04-07-2003, 09:20 PM
yes they aren't slow but they aren't that fast...it's a pretty big car and it's all heavy plastic...the E30's are so small and with the torque it's absolutly so much better IMO, i'm not just sayign that because i have one, because personally i dont like the older bmw's, im in the new mode, but still, i would take a e30 over a grand prix gt

i beleive that people dont realize how much the e30 hauls ass until you've REALLY driven one....LOVE THE E30 !!!!!! i miss my car when it was stock :(....i want another e30 to do very minor mods too...ie suspension, wheels, exhaust etc...e30's are such an amazing car !!!

ill get one and we can do it, and yes I have driven a e30 325 manual and i have owned a GTP and a GTP

so as you can see the GT would be a good race but i still beleve that the GT is faster the GTP is a beast and when modded can dip into the 13's i got slips to prove it.

not dissing on the E30 nice cars I am a fan but GT has more tq. i beleive and like 200 HP not sur what the E30 has but its not that high for sure. The GTP somes with 290TQ and 240HP stock and justa pulley to the charger can boost it like 20hp free up the exhaust and get knock under control boom 13's. I just want peeps to give respect to car that deserve it thats all. Just because its a domestic...come on guys.

take care

let's compare...

2000 Grand Prix GT
Acceleration (0-60 mph): 7.9 sec.
Base Engine Size: 3.8 liters
Base Engine Type: V6
Horsepower: 200 hp
Max Horsepower: 5200 rpm
Torque: 225 ft-lbs.
Max Torque: 4000 rpm
Drive Type: FWD
Weight: 3414 lbs

1990 BMW 325i
Acceleration (0-60 mph): 7.8 sec
Base Engine Size: 2.5 liters
Base Engine Type: Inline 6
Horsepower: 168 hp
Max Horsepower: 5800 rpm
Torque: 164 ft-lbs.
Max Torque: 4300 rpm
Drive Type: RWD
Weight: 2854 lbs.
.................................................. .................

now the GT is faster and the E30 does have 168 stock, but like i said, my dad is a mechanic and he has been tweaking this car ever since he got it, it's a lot faster then a regular stock E30...the GT is FWD and mine is RWD, which is much better for a race as well....i also get more rpm's then he does...i also have less weight then he does and my acceleration is the same...

I dunno here. I'm totally divided on this. I have smoked (pretty darn easily) GT's all day long NO problems what so ever. 0-60, 60-120, 120-160 etc. The gt's are not that fast at all. The gtp's on the other hand (although I don't like them at all, they are big, don't come in stick, and I think look kinda fugly) are bloody quick. Like other people have said here, minimul mods, and they're into the low13's NO problem. So I really don't know, because if pasta knows how to drive, I am gonna say that this is NOT bs and he did beat him by a car length or so............well that's my input hope it didn't sound too stupid.

My money is on Pasta325i, I have an 88' 325 "e" , Chip, intake, cat back, short throw shifter. I had a fair race with a Grand prix, I beat it off the line, it took me when I got to 3rd. If I had the higher redline of the 325i I would have smoked it. So I think it can be done, no doubt about it! E30's are amazing cars.

ok boys the grand prix gt is not supercharged
the grand prix GTP is supercharged
the new 2003 GTP only have hoodscoops
the only difference from a GT and a GTP is a 40 bhp supercharger
obviously the supercharger is bullshit becuase with a domestic car like that a supercharger should be pulling way more power out of it
what everyone should be worried about is a grand am GT the coupe
now that thing has fukin balls
it is a 3.4 l
comes stock with ram air and it weighs less then my 330 coupe by 162 pounds
all grand ams and prixs only come auto unless you go to the states you can find a very little select view grand am gts with an only available option of a 2.4 l with stick which is so fukin slow
one of my buddies has a grand am gt stick with a 3.4 l engine swap and me and him are going to race soon so i will inform everyone of the results
what do u guys things the outcome of that race will be
