View Full Version : Out for a couple of days in jail

Hey guys, I am finally back. I spend a couple of nights in jail, for "exibition of speed" (that's what the cops said) plus for putting the general public in danger. I got spanked with a 4,500 ticket plus I lost my license for a year.

It was worth it though. I topped out my 5.0L stang at 197.7 mph. I am so happy although I am going to pay a fine price for that. Ho well, since the highway was empty (of course it was 2o'clock in the morning) the cops just gave me my ticket for my outstanding speed(which I am proud of) It took them quite a long time to catch me. The damn radar picked me up at 180 but my actual speed was 197 it took an hour for the damn cop toi catch up to me. When he did he said that I was the craziest ****ing driver his ever seen.

remember that car speedo's are usually off after 60 mph so if the cop says 180 that's what it probably was.

So, am I the ONLY guy who's going to call BS on this one?

First off, where in the U.S. are you going to find a road smooth and straight enough to get a Fox body Mustang up to near 200 MPH?

Secondly, how much power are you making to get it close to 200 MPH? Given the aerodynamics and suspension on the Fox platform, I'm going to suggest you'll need north of 600 HP to get close to that.

Third, how did you determine 197.7 MPH? If the cop clocked you at 180 MPH (which I have a much easier time believing...), how did you show 197.7? No Ford analog speedometer is going to give you single digit accuracy, much less accuracy to the tenths.

Something smells a little fishy here....

I remember back in the day watching a special program on TV... some tuner in the States was on a mission to be the first person to make a Mustang 5.0L break the 200mph barrier. They rented the TRC Oval in Ohio and it took them almost 5 different trys, 1100HP and all day testing to eventually do it... they even had to duct tape the hood down, remove the mirrors and tape up the windsheild to make it more aerodynamic. You're telling me you did this a few days ago and your Speedo (that only reads 140mph) notified you of hitting 197.7mph? HAHA... that's great man, congrats!*th-up*

Derty. Good luck in court.

My dad got caught doing 250km, and he kept his foor on the floor . It took the cops 1/2 hour to find him. He was going up the 400 North (hit hwy 9 (davis dr.) and they caught him doing 250 and accelerating. He was going to Barrie National pines golf course. They didnt get him until he was on the 1st tee. hehehe

He got off and NO record of him speeding is on his perm. record.

However, at 197.7 MPH, how much time do you really have to look at the display?

he had a good reason to speed to get to tee on time thats for sure is acceptable. all the road should clear for him and cops should be escorting to the golf course parking lot at least. ....lol ..

Both my cousin and his best friend has 1990 Mustang GT's (5.0L). They both complain about how horrible the car handles at speed, appearently they get twitchy (unstable) and hard to control once things get out of hand. I don't even want to imagine what it'd feel like at 240km/h+

What'd you do to keep the car on the road (as far as suspension setup)?

Yeah, once the air gets under the car at those speeds you gotta get the downforce going to keep it planted, otherwise, it goes into "kite" mode.

i know many of you have a hard time believing this, but just to let you know, the car was made for drag races. It punches out around 970hp.(with the mods that were made at the last minute) It doesn't even look like a stock 5.0L. I know many of you have a hard time believing this but I am not going to try to convience any of you into anything. My car reached this speed down Interstate 10. Now in this highway, you drive 4 hours when going to L.A there is a part of the highway that is just plain straight. Many people dared me to do it and it was all setup. All my friends helped on this project becuase we had to wait for the right time to run the car. We waited until the road got a empty as it could get and my friends helped with radios, radars, ho and I forgot to mention one of my friends as this artifact that can read the speed your car is making even, after you passed your speedometers limit. He told me the car was at 197.7 top speed and again, if any of you were oing to see the car, it does not even look like a stock 5.0 it's more like a baby 5.0L funny car and all of you know what those cars can do. Now, I know you are going to ask for pics but the only pic I have is form when it was still stock. Now, my dad took it from me and said that I was never driving that car again. He took it to our warehouse in Mexico, and that damn warehouse is the only place I don't have access to Sad to say, that was the fifth and last time I drove the car. Since I got it, it always spent it's time at the shop, getting ready for our project.

One thing that I would like to make clear to you guys. I know that many of you have a hard time believing what I said. My mechanic Jeff, he said one thing that I think you should know. He said that the GPS thing he used has a 50/50 percent chance of being right. He did say however, that IF the car didn't hit 197.7 like the GPS said. It at least hit, a good 180+ speed. Again I am not going to get into detail on the mods, as far as supsension, engine, aerodynamics, and things of that sort. For a good reason, The project was made secretly and me and my crew agreed not to talk about the mods and things that were done to the car. When we got caught, (and I was in court) the judge made me tell him the truth. Me and the crew were working on a web page and put the video of the stang on the web. When I told the judge my intentions. He said that all videos, pictures, sounds(even the cop cameras) were to be destroyed, he said he did not want any side benefiting from the event (which he labeled as insane). So there you have it. I admit it probably didn't hit 197 or 190 but hey that's what the GPS read and hey guys, I was happy, I mean imagine 197MPH. How would you feel if a damn GPS thing read that your car hit 197mph?

How convenient, a completely circular defense.

"I can't post any pictures of the car because the judge ordered me not to." "I can't tell you any of the mods, because my mechanic wants to keep it a secret."

Right....

Nevermind downforce and suspension, what about GEARING??? HAHA, The stock 3.08 gears will top out around 250km/h in 5th gear... that record car I was talking about had a 6 speed transmission.

Mustang 5.0 5-speeds did not come with 3.08 gears. They were 2.73's.
And a 6-speed tranny has no bearing whatsoever on top speed. Surprised to hear that one from you, Randy.

Yeah, once the air gets under the car at those speeds you gotta get the downforce going to keep it planted, otherwise, it goes into "kite" mode.

Wrong. Downforce never hurts, but "kite mode" is BS.

Once again, the local BMW board is chock full of Mustang "experts".

GT?

GR8 Ride
03-31-2003, 04:22 PM
Even with a 2.73 rear end, max in fourth gear (1:1 ratio in the 1990 Mustang) is 161 MPH.

The 5th gear is 0.68 to 1, which is pretty heavily over-driven to allow for an additional 40 MPH of top end. A six speed would help, provided you're running a custom gear-set to keep from being massively over-driven in 5th or 6th gear.

Oh, and you should know that downforce DOES hurt....hurts top end a whole bunch. Downforce = drag, and the stock Mustang (much like all stock BMWs) actually produces LIFT at high speed, and not any downforce. To keep that car stable above 150 MPH is pretty tough, and the more downforce the system produces, the more HP required to push the car past the aerodynamic barrier.

Mustang or BMW, vehicle dynamics remain the same, and the basic laws of physics are the same. I'd call the same BS if somebody said they had their BMW up to 197.7 MPH.

Pat

got torque?
03-31-2003, 04:34 PM
Like most auto racing fans, I understand that downforce= drag.

When I said it doesn't hurt I was referring to stability and handling at high speeds. What hurts straight-line speed can be good for high speed feel, handling, and stability.

Unlike 99% of the people here, I have driven a Mustang at high speeds (approx. 160mph), and it is not as scary and uncontrollable as all of the armchair quarterbacks here make it out to be.

I do agree that 197MPH is a little far-fetched.

GT?

GR8 Ride
03-31-2003, 05:36 PM
Like I said, I don't disagree with the possibility of 180 MPH, as I think that's readily achievable with 500 or so HP.

Those next 20 MPH are pretty tough to push through though.

And yes, your car never felt as though it had any stability problems at 140+ MPH. Then again, your car was not a stock suspension'd car either..... :)

All right guys bs is over, today we went trough all the mods and the stuff that we did to the car, and a little secret test drive that we managed to do. It proved that the car hit 182-184 that's why the cop picked me up at 180. that's the speed I was actually doing. I'll post some pics whenever I get a chance. We're still wondering why the gps thing showed 197 though. It's pretty wierd. I would have loved it if it actually did 197 though. But there you have it the car hit no more than 185. Cool huh.

A GPS can be off because it's only good at measuring average speed over a *relatively* long distance (say, 1 KM or so). Otherwise, a GPS is only good to about 10 metres or so, at any point in time.

All the GPS does is record your position (to within 10 metres) one instant, and then record your position (to within 10 metres) the next instant. It then takes the time difference between the two recorded positions, and calculates the speed from one point to the next.

Over a 1km or so, a GPS is fairly accurate in terms of speed. But for a short distance, they can range quite a bit. I used to get some funny readings off the speedo on my boat, as it was GPS based (as opposed to the water pickup tube that is the more standard issue on a boat).

I highly DOUBT that this stang had its STOCK gear ratios!!
lets keep that in mind!!
also, i do not at all agree with the fact that stangs are unstable at high speeds, i mean i'm sure they are with a STOCK setup, but if you get the right sprrings, shocks, sways, etc. you can make even a PICK UP handle amazing at high speeds, RIGHT?!

I doubt he hit 197, BUT, i think its relatively possible for him to have hit 160-180....

Hey guys.. GUESS WHAT!!!

MY 1989 525i GOT UP TO 690MPH ON THE 401 AND THEN WE WERE GOING SO FAST THAT WE FLEW BACK IN TIME!

I had proof but I left it in 3000 B.C.

this scenario is just as believable as this mustang story.

So wheres this "ticket" that this joker was going to be right back and post..... what does this guy think he's doing.... playing us like a cheap trick......
I hate when people lie..... especially when they continually change their story... It went from being a "Precise" and "Accurate" 197.7 MPH to "well it was about 185 MPH"... next week he'll be on saying it was actually only 97.7....."my crew is just too stupid to read a GPS thats 50/50 percent right...... well guess what guys.... that time it fell on the 50% BULLSHIT.....

Just a question

If his car is set up for drag racing...why would he have it geared high enough to do 197.7mph? I know a few +500hp stangs and on the high way it's not like they are doing 2800rpm or any nice cruising number. It's like 3600rpm if they are lucky. And these car are like 10 second stangs so..I don't know if I believe this one because of the gearing factory.

If he said he build the car for highway runs..that's a different story, but he said drag racing and I know how muscle car guys think

meh, dunno what to think.
It COULD be true, so I'm not going to call it B.S. just yet, but I can't say I believe it completely either.
I need some visual proof of some kind.
