Separating shock from rear trailing arm

Hi guys, started doing some suspension work on my E24. I'm in the process of deleting the self level system, and at the point were I must disconnect the lower portion of the shock from the mounting point on the rear trailing arm. I have removed the large bolt holding it together and still dose not want to separate. I even tried a little persuasion with a hammer and large punch as well as with a couple of pry-bars but it hasn't even moved.

am I doing something wrong here, did I miss something?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Nope. Keep pursueding! Its a compression fit. Take a screwdriver and SLIGHTLY pry open the end where the bolt went through and try again.....

Problem solved, ended up pulling the trailing arm and shock assembly in one piece, then I shoved a large drift punch into the hole where the shock connected to the trailing arm making sure not to go in to far and damage the inner threads, and then just hit it from side to side a few times and out it came:cool:
