Ok so this has been a long time coming for anyone who knows me but I have finally done it. I just picked up a 2005 Rio Yellow S2000 from Florida with 15,000miles on it. I will be going to pick it up when the snow and salt is gone here are some teasers till then.

For that very reason - the AP1 and AP2 have nice body lines. The soft top ruins it, as long as it stays down then by all means. And again its your car so you dont have to listen to me - just stated what looks good on it as far as mods go.

That is awsome I never liked the LM's on the S2000 but that is beautiful. I'm only going to be driving the car in the summer and I will be sporting the top down unless there is rain...lol Didn't mean to offend it's just I want the car because it is a vert so I never understood putting a hardtop on unless it will be driven in the winter.

No offense taken. I drive my cars year round so for me the hard top would be a must. That car is a mission for someone 6'4" - but thank god for low profile seat rails and aftermarket seats.

The Mugen hardtop definitely looks better. I don't think the hardtop on ths S2K is much of a pain. The hardtop on my E30 was a bit of work. Nothing beats the METAL hartop I had on my old Ramcharger...it took four people and about an hour of bolting it back on LOL.

I was shocked at that red AP2 they had at the meet. When I took it for a spin, while turning I could break the rear loose at 3000rpm in 2nd. It's waaaayyyyy more flexible than people seem to think, myself included.

I have a feeling Lindsay won't want me driving that car. At least after the first time she sees what I do to it.

LOL!!! My manhood is well in check ;) ...I know my car is slow: sexy beast is a nice way to put it! It's like a soulless supermodel that is great to look at in many ways, but then she ****s like a dead horse!! ~3300lbs with only 225HP FTL :( But I love it in every other way (driving feel, handling, looks, etc). Straight line speed is not my car's specialty by any means and I'm well aware of that.

I so want to get a ride in that S2K though, I've never been in one and keep hearing about how "go-kart" like they drive!

Me too!

Yes its a stage II cam from Skunk2 that is BPUs plus a tune nets 242whp (graph below) I'd like to get the AEM on it as well.

I think this level NA tune will be ideal in the car for 2-3 track seasons. I've driven one with 272whp NA and it was a lot jam for the chassis and a challenge to keep under control.

When the car is mastered, we'll start looking at either the Ultimate Racing Turbo Kit 400ish or Peak Boost Turbo GT35R kit 454whp. Which is a monster and needs a skilled wheelman/woman. At this point pull out all the upgrades and eBay 'em, not ideal for a turbo S2K. Installing Turbo cams kind of a hassle but the head will have to be openup anyway for new headgasket and ARP studs anyway to handle the booooost.

Damn, big tingz already!

Haha naw, in my head its something like this.

- intake, header & exhaust and let the factory ECU learn them
- coilovers to dump it
- 18-inch wheels fat sticky tires 225 / 285s
- then pick up an AEM EMS + cams a bit down the road
- enjoy for a couple seasons until the driver is ready to step-up to a turbo and retune the EMS.

Mystikal
02-20-2010, 02:43 PM
You sure about leaving the ECU for now? I remember reading the SCC coilover shootout a couple years back, they had about a dozen S2000s involved. It was a track time shootout, so all mods were regulated heavily to keep the game even (i.e. see which suspension alone was fastest). However, they let the companies do whatever the hell they wanted with the intake/exhaust/header because they knew that these parts add absolutely no power with the stock ECU (which was required by the rules, as you CAN gain power with that). They were right, as all of the healthy AP2s made pretty much the same power despite mod differences.

I say ECU early in the game.

My personal favorite has always been the ASM S2000 built by AutoBACS. Sure its over the top but thats why its sooo dope. Back in 2004 when I saw it, it was pretty radical.

All carbon fiber widebooty kit that costs $40,000USD. 305whp horses out of NA 2.4L spinning > 10,000rpm. It turns a 0:57 at Tsukuba meaning its under 3-seconds off the record set by a tube-chassis carbon fiber body Evo with double the horsepower.

I drove the street version 272whp from 2.2L and it was definitely memorable :-p

I was shocked at that red AP2 they had at the meet. When I took it for a spin, while turning I could break the rear loose at 3000rpm in 2nd. It's waaaayyyyy more flexible than people seem to think, myself included.

I have a feeling Lindsay won't want me driving that car. At least after the first time she sees what I do to it.

It's all in the way you drive it. Drive it like a 318.. Rev the piss out of it.

I wouldn't even say that. It felt more like my S50 than any 4cyl I've ever driven. Credit the gearing.

I drove my buddies dads S2k with a CAI, made a whole lot of noise but didn't go anywhere as fast as I expected. The ass dyno wasn't impressed.
