It has been announced

http://www.evo.co.uk/news/evonews/245983/return_of_the_bmw_m1.html

So apparently, they're not sure if the new hot 1 series will be an M1, or whether its a new supercar.

lol, I guess this is old news or people just don't care there will be a new M car

A $55-65,000, 400 hp, lightweight, M-suspension'd 1 series would be heaven!
I don't think they'll make it to those specs the article suggests though, no way will they give a 1 series 400 hp when the M3 has 414 hp.

i care. but i want to see the real specs and not speculation. anyway, i think my brother-in-law will be more excited by this. the 1 series is too small for my taste.

...and for close to 65K you could get the c63 AMG, although you'd probably have to start a petrol excavating company to keep up with its thirst.

sure but for $70G you can have an M3, a better comparison to the C63, and a much better vehicle.

it would be cool if they made that to those specs but highly doubt it

I dunno, EVO is usually pretty close in these kind of guesses. I don't think it'd be up to 400 hp, but you know what? 350 would be fine. As long as the pricing is between a 335 and an M3 and as long as it has a carbon roof :P

btw...what do you guys think about calling the 1-series car an M1 instead of the '78-81 M1 or its possible future replacement? personally i'm sorta on the fence on this one, but i think i'd like to see a 1 series badged as an M1.

I don't like the idea of a 1 series being called an M1, M1 needs to be reserved for the next BMW mid-engine supercar.

i know what you mean. but the supercar as an M1 doesn't hold the pattern of the other M cars as each series has it's M model. even if the M1 came first. but i still agree with you at some level. i'm kinda split. maybe the 1 series should be called the M1 and the other can be called M1 supercar. :D

it'll be interesting to see how BMW is able to reduce weight on an M version of the 1-series.

why? the 1 series is stupid heavy... its quite close to the weight of a 3-series. It should be cake for them to shave weight of the 1

The mercedes 6.2L motors are only really bad on gas if you beat on them. Which is impossible not to do because they're fun as shit.
