My two rear h/k speakers are blown in my 98 m3. Im looking for new speakers that are as good or better than the stocks. What do you guys recomend?

PS . I have an Alpine CDA-9884 Deck and an Alpine M500 amp with
12" Alpine Type S sub.

Are you running the rear speakers off of your Alpine deck directly, or will you be using the BMW amp?

Ill have them hooked up to the factory bmw amp.

The H/K 6x9s are 2 ohms, if memory serves, which is what the BMW H/K amp is expecting to see. Your typical aftermarket car speakers are 4 ohms impedance.

If you hook up a 4 ohm speaker to your H/K amp, with the doubled impedance, your speaker will only see about 12-15 watts of clean (less than 5% THD) power from the amp, so it really doesn't matter what you pop back there- they will be running at well below their power capacity.

As for audio quality, these are rear fill speakers, and the amp has a built-in cross-over which will send the woofers ONLY mid/ low frequencies. You need therefore be concerned with only three things; efficiency (how loud they go for a given amount of input), size (you need a 6x9), and cost (as little as possible).

What do you think of the Alpine Type R 6x9's? , do they have better sound quality than the factory H/K's ? .

The Type Rs will be just fine. As I mentioned, if you're running them off of the stock H/K amp, anything will do. As for sound quality, they will sound better than your stock H/Ks, though they will probably be a bit quieter (due to their higher impedance). If the price is right, go for it- they'll provide nice fill to bridge the gap between your fronts and sub.

IF you run a 6x9 that's more efficient then the factory, even though it has a higher impedance, should not notice much of a difference. Why don't you get yourself into a 4 channel amp and give the whole system a boost ?!!?!?

isnt bsw only good if you dont want to by-pass the crossover and/or amp?

never knew setting up a good sound system could be so hard*mumble*
