Spoke to a friend today,
His son was recently in a severe crash luckily everyone was okay. Saw a picture of the car and it looked like a it was rolled down a mountain! Twisted metal everywhere. Point of story was that the airbags did NOT deploy, even though it was a high speed front end collision. After doing a bit of reading, I found that BMW has been taken to court on various occasions for charges relating to airbags not being deployed!! Since this happen more then a few times, they are apparently suited up with top end lawyers to ensure they don't lose these cases.

Has anyone else come across this issue? Maybe something that's common to all car manufactures? Or some internal flaw with BMWs?

BMW SRS systems are crap. You'd think for what they charge for a car they could design quality parts that would last and work properly for 20 years or 300,000km. All the parts are inside the car and not subject to much wear or moisture. Very disappointing that the SRS systems require more maintenaince than the suspension system of the car.
