I'm painting up some spots on my fender and hood. I've been sanding the bondo and primer up to 1000grit. My paint is a laguna green metallic. I did 2 base coats on my hood and sanded down to 2000grit (very smooth), but the color does look a bit off. Should I be sanding down the paint coat or should I leave it as it is, and instead apply my 6 or so clear coats and just sand that down.

better use a tack cloth before shooting the clear down to clean excess debris and dust from the surface. color will be a bit off. it's fresh paint!!! it's all in the prep. Then shoot the clear and after letting it dry polish the paint.

but to sand the paint or not to sand?

won't matter. it's flat paint therefore it won't change. you can't change the pigment by just sanding.

I'm pretty sure you don't want to be sanding metallic base-coat....
