Guys,

I search e30 key cut and didn't find any threads..

Kinda worried that I only got one key and it's kinda beat down..
I went to walmart, ctire and they didn't have the key to use...

went to the dealer and they wanted $125 bucks..

any advice on where i can get a few extra keys cut for a "reasonable" price

thanks

Yeah it's a big conspiracy by BMW. No one has blanks anymore. They stopped carrying them around the time BMW changed their E30 new key price from around 25 bucks to 125.

Buy a blank from ebay, and get it cut at your nearest joint, that's what I did.

Do what BigD suggest.

I bought an OEM key (with light n all) from ebay also, had it cut at a local place.

I remember once a long time ago, I was able to get a spare cut at Yonge/Steeles mall (center point?) It was a very cheap key, but he was able to cut me one. So keep trying you might find somewhere that has a blank for you until your ebay OEM key comes.

thanks guys.. how do you tell if oem's are really oem's on ebay though? assuming there are replicas but i guess those would still work...

I went to Canadian Tire a couple weeks ago and got two keys cut (my trunk uses a different key). Try a different location.

I had 2 cut from BMW Ajax, and it certainly wasn't $125.

I think it was around $45 for two keys?

I'm sure it's fine, but look harder, you can find one with a proper plastic grip, or even a light, for less than that. I think mine cost me like 5 or 8 bucks or something.

i asked him about my hood cable handle, and the convertible top boot release handle with cover and was quoted $60, $30 and $8 respectively.. so i'm not sure but i'll keep trying looking cause i just don't want that key to snap due somehow lol

Okay, maybe it's me.... but all of the key blanks on ebay are $35-55 a piece! The only one that was cheaper was a $12 one from Thailand. What a rip off... I need a new key too. :(

2 years ago I lost my last set of keys in winter.
( I know I'm lazy... anwy)

No spare, no dummies.

The parts guy at (St-Martin BMW ,Mtl ) ordered new one from Germany
It cost me around $35 each.
Plus have the option for the lighted one +$$

That was 2 years ago.
That was for e30
That was not for a key with memory
That was with a 3-4 days turn aroud.
That was impressive, I never been a customer from them.
The car is 15 year old+ they still have record in Germany !!!!

I found some blank at a small Rona hardware store. ( Alfa blanks too )
Made some spare for $8.00
No black surround.

I got mine from the seller eurodepot. It even came in the BMW baggie, with the factory p/n sticker on it. I think it was like 10-12 bucks (not as cheap as I remember but still... it wasn't a generic blank, it had the proper plastic grip).

Yep, that's him. But he was selling a proper key, for pretty much the same price if I remember correctly.

The keys are laser cut and are DAMN sharp when you get them.

I don't remember them saying they come from Germany but it took a week to get them cut. They did need to photocopy my registration to cut the keys. I do recall $35 a key.

Hmm, I'm not sure when the change happened (not like I need to get this done on a regular basis). But I remember asking last year and it was like 35 bucks all said and done, but I was too lazy to get it done. When I first heard the new price, I called all the BMW dealers in the area. Budds was hilarious, the guy punches it into the computer, he's like "mm E30 key... one hundred... what!? this used to be like 30 bucks... I'm sorry". Then I visited and asked for an online inv check at Home Depot, CT, Walmart, Rona, no one had anything. Walmart even showed the key in stock, but the boxes are empty. I'm not huge on conspiracy theories but it's too much when the same time when BMW quadruples their prices, every blank disappears from the retailers.

My local key cutter whipped me one up for $5. It's a cheap, generic blank. Took him a few minutes to find one, but was no prob.

Almost cheaper than from the dealer - even with airfares!!!!!!!

Or you could all send me the keys to your e30's...... I'll set up a Canadian address.... :D

If anyone wants, I'd actually be fairly happy to send a load of blanks over. Might not work out any cheaper than ebay though.

If you just want a Ilco key that will be your backup go to the locksmith in Bronte in Oakville. He carries e30 blanks for $6 or so. He's located in the plaza with the pioneer gas station at Bronte Rd. and Lakeshore.

I remember 2 years ago I bought an OEM key for my vert off ebay. I think it was $18 or so and C tire cut it for free for me.

I had the same problem with my E30 many years ago. I ran a search in my Microsoft Outlook archives to recall that I had cut a copy of my E30 key based off an Ilco X140 VL8 Volvo key blank. I just brought the key, told them it was for a Volvo and it cost me $3 at Locks Engravable in Cedarbrae Mall (Markham/Lawrence) back in 2006.

I had mine cut at CT. It works fine, just for some of the locks I have to not insert it all the way. *shrugs* better than paying stealer price

lol the specialty store i went to didn't want to cut my keys.. (we don't cut steel it'll break our machines etc..)

walked into canadian tire ,no problem guy cut them and they kinda work

car starts, doors open but the trunk won't work with these new keys nor will the glove box.

i also got an ilco key that starts the car, locks the glove box and nothing else..

i need like 3 keys if i'm not using the original
