View Full Version : Getrag 260/6 (M30 5-speed) and M30 single mass flywheel

As per title...

I have a Getrag 260/6 out of a low mileage E28 (160k I was told - bought from member TurboReady). The output shaft has been modified to fit an E34, but it needs the right output flange (mine went back on my other trans in my E34). You can get this flange off any 1987 or later manual transmission 325e.

I bought it when I thought the transmission in my 535 was failing, but after I swapped it out I figured out it was the driveshaft center bearing. I drove on this tranny for about 1500 kms before I swapped it back out for the original one. Drove perfect - the 1-2 shift is slightly notchy when cold, but you could probably change the oil to ATF or Redline MTL or whatever to fix that.

The tranny is in excellent shape, and has the holes in the bellhousing for the M30B34 crank sensors, so it can be used with any M30. It does need a shift rod seal, but I'm pretty sure I have a spare one at home which I will include with the transmission if it sells (I will even install it if desired).

Also have a single mass flywheel from a very early (Jetronic) M30 - will only work on M30B35 as it doesn't have the proper sensor ring for the B34 crank sensors. Weighs ~17 lb. Has surface rust and will need to be re-surfaced. Pics here (http://www.maxbimmer.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1280073&postcount=9).

I'd like to get $350 for the pair. Slightly negotiable on the price, but I paid more than that for them and if I can't get close to my asking price I'll just keem them and swap an M30 in my cabrio eventually.

Only willing to split them up if I have a buyer for the transmission first. Prices separate will be $250 for the trans and $100 for the flywheel.

PM or email me at mckay.paul.d AT gmail.com if you're interested.

Both items are located in Ottawa but I can potentially bring them to Kitchener/Waterloo or anywhere in between (Toronto, etc).

Paul, i just pm'd you.

Also realized that I have a spare output flange from a Getrag 240 that _may_ fit this one if you're willing to risk using the smaller M10/M20/M42 guibo and driveshaft behind an M30. No guarantees, but I'm willing to include it with the trans if the buyer wants it.

hmm , i thought of that but didnt know if the g240 output flange would bolt onto the g260/6.

As far as I know, all BMW manual transmission output flanges use the same spline/bolt pattern and seal diameter and should technically "bolt up".

I'm just not sure if the flange from the G240 has the right "height" from the surface where the flange nut sits to the surface where the guibo bolts up to allow the output shaft to stick out the right distance and index the driveshaft properly.

06-18-2009, 05:07 PM
ah i see, it's probably best to just get a proper output flange in there and not worry about it.

06-18-2009, 06:30 PM
Yep, that's what I'd do - but I'll also check the G240 flange this weekend and see if it looks to be the right height. I think msinger did something like that for his M30 E30 swap, just not sure which exact flange he used.

Bump for pics.

I also checked and the G240 output flange will NOT fit this transmission (the splines are different) so I will include the original E28 flange (pictured) but I do not recommend using it as the shortened output shaft probably won't index a driveshaft properly if you do.

However, if it's too tough to find the proper flange (I don't think it should be) you should be able to use a flange from an M20 G260/5 (ask msinger for details about what he used).

I also confirmed that I have a spare shift rod seal which I will include with the sale and can install if desired.

325man has dibs right now but you're definitely next in line if he doesn't take it.

Bump, these are available again.

zubbie, PM'd you.

I used the output flange from my 325i m20 tranny on the 260/6 using Funkmaster from R3V's engine mounts and the stock 325i driveshaft fit perfectly, this was on an M30B35 swap. The only modification needed was shortening the output shaft.

06-24-2009, 06:00 PM
Sweet. The output shaft on mine has already been shortened to work with the E34 flange, so that _may_ make it a bolt up solution (if the E34 uses the same length output as the 325i M20 trans).

Bump it up. Anyone doing an M30 E30?

Bump it. Anyone?

07-22-2009, 05:03 PM
Bump again... I'm getting tempted to put an M30 in my cabrio, and I really don't need to be spending that money!

07-26-2009, 03:33 PM
Sunday bump...

07-29-2009, 11:06 AM
Bump... can deliver to TO this weekend.

02-19-2010, 03:34 PM
you dont by chance still have that trans and single mass?

02-19-2010, 04:19 PM
Yep, still have them both.

02-19-2010, 05:49 PM
how much?........

02-19-2010, 09:49 PM
See first post... $350 for both or $250 trans, $100 flywheel... slightly negotiable. I paid more than that and I still have thoughts of putting an M30 in my E30, so I'm not going to take a huge amount less.

EDIT: I'd also consider trades or partial trades for E30 or E34 wheels, E30 euro ellipsoid headlights (smiley or not), or an E30 fitment M-Tech 2 steering wheel.

02-22-2010, 12:53 AM
Bump... getting some interest on the flywheel, anyone want the trans?

02-22-2010, 11:44 AM
we'll im interested but cheap. ive got and m30 kicken around to do a swap but not in any rush to do it, give me ur rock bottom on both pieces.

02-23-2010, 09:21 PM
PM'd you.

04-18-2010, 01:11 PM
Bump. Still have both of these. Anyone doing a summer project?

04-18-2010, 02:34 PM
I could use another trans, mine doesn't like the extra TQ and the 3rd gear syncro is not good. I'm gonna need the e34 trans flange on it though.

04-18-2010, 06:44 PM
I wish I could supply it with the flange - went to Standard this weekend to try and get one but the 535i/5 they had last time I was there had disappeared.

Let me know if you still want the trans - I can bring it down next time I come to TO.

04-22-2010, 04:53 PM
Bump. Anyone want the trans?

04-26-2010, 09:30 PM
Trans sold, thanks e30_kid89!
