So last year was bittersweet for me. I picked up my E30 in July and I was pumped. I went for a midnight cruise with everyone in August I believe and it poured like nobody's business. The next day the carpets were soaked...weak. In October my plates got pulled for the car being too low...which was BS but I don't feel like going there.

Fast forward to this spring...the car clearly needed some work so I tore out the carpets to see the damage. Here are some carnage pics:

(Underneath this hole in the floor was a hole in the frame)

(This is after we cut all the garbage metal from this area)

My old man is a jack of all trades so he went to town with the mig welder and some 16ga steel and we ended up with this:

http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n190/carm_starcv4/013.jpg

So I never ever have to deal with this again everything was sealed up with POR-15 and all the patches got a treatment of undercoating:

There was also a leak from the windshield that my glass guy took care of and one from the door because the plastic sheet was f'd. I patched the passenger side up and actually had to make one from scratch for the driver's side. Leak free at last!

My brother bought me a new shift boot and e-brake boot for my birthday so it went in when the interior was reassembled. While the centre console was out I figured why not retrofit some E36 window switches.

http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n190/carm_starcv4/004-1.jpg

Here are all the leftover bits after reassembling the interior. The black plastic nuts and white inserts are there because I bought too many, the window switches because they were replaced, and the rest I just plain forget where they went.

http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n190/carm_starcv4/006-1.jpg

The engine bay got a little love also. I got a new cone filter, black coupler, proper M50 valve cover cover to replace the S50 one it came with, and painted the strut brace and intake arm textured black.

http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n190/carm_starcv4/002.jpg

*edit* Almost forgot...I replaced the 3.73 LSD with a 2.93 open. Gas mileage won out over speed.

When I put the wheels back on and dialed in the suspension I raised the rear a bit to eliminate the slight reverse rake the car used to have. I got the car ready in time for a local VW show. I'm still a dub guy at heart. Here are some pics other people snapped.

I love the rims. Also, what is the lip on the front tech II?

carmv4
06-03-2009, 09:58 PM
Thanks. It's a tech II with an e36 m3 lip molded to it.

You got your plate pulled for being too low? Was it lower than it is now (minus the rake)?

edit: oh, and goes without saying, that's effin hawt.

Glad to see your keeping it clean!

I've seen too many cars gone to shit after the new owner neglects it. Looks like your improving it and making it better than before.

Hope to see it around, too bad im never in brampton.

My only complaint is the Mtech panels being molded to the body.

Does the e36 window switch just drop in? Same size? ...that's not a bad idea...

@stan_man: That's some serious business...at least you're taking care of it though!

@Fel: PM sent. You need to dremel a little but it's worth it...no more breaking fingers to open windows.

Anybody going to vagwood?

http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n190/carm_starcv4/VAGWOOD20091.jpg

I remember last year there was a sweet E92 335 vert that was slammed on some nice wheels. They had awesome goodie bags and prizes last year and this year the stuff is supposed to be even better according to my buddy Nelson that's running the show. There are some pics from 2008 here:

http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=4229783

Get used to me promoting vw shows *wiggle* But I'll make it out to BMW events too.

you have to trim the E30 stock panel, pretty easy! and slice+wire the new one.

there is a write-up about it on E30tech or R3v!*smoke*
