If you are a rock music guy, go JBL
If you like sound clarity, go Infinity

I think he's just saying retailers like best buy / futureshop overcharge...

Either way, the front speakers are something I would not skimp out on.. I am looking for a good set aswell. The rears are mostly for soundfill and actually throw off the accuracy in a high end SQ focused system.

MB Quart, JL Zr (if you can afford them)... if not try Premier / Pioneer
for decent midrange quality & price.

Stay away from sony & pioneer entry levels... waste of money IMO:moon:

^^ I agree if your going to go with pioneer make sure you go wit their premier line. Most big companies have their their crappy sell out lines and then their good lines that are only carried at private retailers. Pioneer has premier, kenwood has exelon, and so on. JL is one company that only sells the best and even an entry level JL speaker will sound really good. The JL ZR is going a bit extreme I am confident if you went with a VR you would be very happy. Also keep in mind buying an amp for the speakers is well worth the money. Buying aftermarket speakers with no amp is almost a waste of time. At most your deck will begiving them 50 watts when most afternarket speakers are going to be needing at least 75.

^ I assumed he was amplifying the components... running them off a stock deck would be pointless. Even an aftermarket deck will give you at best 12-14 watts clean rms... underpowering most of the speakers we mentioned which are built for 80+ watts rms and resulting in you blowing them. I can recomend a good site to get the stuff online, Ive been using them for 2 system builds now and they sell stuff way under msrp.

PM me, I don't want to put on a web link as it might interfere with sponsors?

i wanting clairity iam happy with my stock speakers at low volume but when iam wanting more sound it's to distorted for me

Young Gun

Speaking from experience, I would think the distorion you mention is due to the lower frequencies, the bass even on the HK system sucks big time.

What I did is added an aftermarket amp with sub box, and disconnected / removed the hk subs from the trunk. So the lows are played by the sub and the factory amp takes care of filtering the frequencies for the rest of the speakers.

I play my music loud and I can say that allthough not as clear as my amplified premier components in my old car, the HK speakers do a good job.

Any chance you'd be able to PM me the site? I'm looking for most likely an overhaul on my stock components.

Thanks in advance :)

What's your budget ??? Then you can decide what to get. If you're looking to drop only $100, good luck.

Everyone thinks something is the best likely because they own it........... statements like "without a doubt, JL audio" makes me laugh. *thmbsdwn*

Smarter thing to do is actually go listen to what you are considering to buy and even better if it's installed in a car versus on a board at the shop. Then decide assuming it fits your budget.

why does that make you laugh?
I work at a car audio shop, I know what i'm talking about and through experiance, installs, and compaisons I can educatedly make that statement
Spend some time on a car audio forum and you also may see which brand repidedly comes out on top

^ It's about personal experience with the products & also personal taste... more than 80% of people on here don't need the best of the best, so it shouldn't make a difference chosing between one make of speaker and another.

That being said... I demand the best haha

JL Audio for a while was force fed to the consumer by an amazing advertising campaign. A lot of hype use to surround JL Audio (when I paid more attention to the industry), especially with all the *bling* coverage it got on TV, etc. I've met WAAAAY too many people that state that JL is the only way to go without actually know anything about it or how it works. They install it because of the hype or because their buddies have it................ and will tell you it's awesome even if it sounds like crap.............." it's JL.............. it can't sound bad............. bro".

I use to be an IASCA judge for many years and I'm also still somewhat involved in the industry. Anyways, JL can be good stuff.............. but....................

"educatedly" LMAO, apparently not that educated.

IMO JL, Pioneer and Alpine are not what they used to be. A good rule of thumb now is not to buy anything they carry at Future Shop or Best Buy. These companies have sacrificed quality in order to target a broader market.

The DLS ultimate line is good as are CDT speakers.

you just made yourself sound stupid man
not only is JL still a privately owned american company they have not sold out to big box stores.
Your right in saying pioneer alpine, and kenwwod have but even so pioneer has not sacrificed their primier line and same with kenwood in their exelon line. Alpine I believe only sells the S type speakers and crap quality decks in the big stores.
Saying JL isn't what it used to be? what did it used to be? They have only gotten better, first wiuth the slash series amps and now with the HD series.
as I stated above I work at a car audio shop and have tested more combinations of audio eqiupment then I can even expalin. I do feel I can make a pretty educated statement

i would tend to agree with this statement. i have heard Jl's old components and drivers, and they sound like shit to their newer lines.....

i dont know if i waould say JL is the best, but certainly is up there in the top 10. which IMO makes them a good quality brand.

i have JL W1 subs, 3 12" to be exact, and i would buy anything wlse ion the same price range. as for the speakers, JL is good, i have heard many top of the line speakers, and IMO JL has some damn good speakers to offer.

all i can say is find what you like, cuz in the end, no matter what the stats say, its about personal preference.

Find some cars with gear in them................ listen to them and then decide what sounds good. Ask the owner what *stuff* they have.............. you'll be a lot farther ahead by demo-ing the equipment in a car and finding something you like................... prior to buying.

Stuff on boards in a shop only simulate what you may hear........... but for the most part, will be nothing like how that exact same gear sounds once installed in a car. Car environment is brutal...........
