I went to my local junkyard this morning to see what they got.

I came back with a M3 steering (I think), a kicker panel for under the steering, the small box that makes sounds that is attached to it and the plastic tips that go over the steel rod that you push/ pull to lock the doors.

All of that for 65$.

I also saw a 318 with a short shifter and a nice all leather shift knob. I think I'll gonna call to get them also.

By the way, I saw a 5 series from around 1990 that had the oem cell phone it.*mw* Actually, I think all of the interior was still pretty nice. Too bad I don't need it!

Cheers

Here is a pic of the steering installed.
Don't tell me about the M3 logo at the bottom. It was faded, so I repainted chrome.

I will order a brand new logo.

I love it!

Yeah, I had the shift knob on my SI. I just put it there while I'm looking for something else.

But the feel is very good.

It's not an "m3" wheel. Its an M-technic I wheel. Still v.good though. I have the same one. Get the short shift and leather knob - you'll thank yourself.

Ok, but can you educate me a bit more?

Don't all e30 M3 came with that steering wheel? I think there is an EVO version of that wheel too...

And I called for the knob and the shifter. I hope they still have them...

its an mtech1 wheel. not as desireable as the mtech2, but some people still like it.

im not really sure what it came on, but i believe that the earlier e30s had it as an option

what junk yard do you go to?

It's Brassard pieces d'auto inc.
It's in St-Amable (20 minutes from Boucherville).
I live in that town.

Here is the link.

Plenty of E36 also...

I assume they speak english, if not I can help.

Cheers

Nice find. It looks like a 370mm Mtech 1, not the common 380mm one...

You should measure it.

edit: also, nice houndsthooth interior you got there

edit 2: I know a guy who paid US$330 for such steering wheel.

Thanks for the comments*th-up*

I had no idea BMW made 2 identical wheels except for the size...and only 10mm?? I'll check that out for fun tomorrow.

Nice ride you got there*rockout*

The m3 did have the wheel, my point was that it didn't just come on m3's so its not all that rare. US$330??? holy crap. They swap hands for NZ$150 max over here. Common as muck (both sizes are available, with the smaller being more hard to come by).

The two sized wheels that are valuable are the Mtech II wheels, not the Mtech I. The Mtech I wheels are quite common.

I verified and it's the 380mm I have.
It's easy to to find out when you know what to look for .
The 380mm has a small gap between the horn button and the handle area. The 370mm doesn't.

And I would guess the 330$ is for a brand new one???

Yeah at 330$ is for a new one. Here is the link 370mm Mtech I wheel (http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showpost.php?p=1522102&postcount=1)

I thought it would be the 370 because I didn't see the gap on your picture.

Anyways, it is still a nice find and looks better than the 4 spoke one :)

edit: actually I do see them gaps... my mistake *wave*
