I never ended up doing the proposed S52 swap into the Barbie BMW...sold it to my customer instead.

Looking at maybe doing a LT1 swap into my 944...ever done one?...I know renegadehybrid guys out of the US have a kit...?

Thoughts?

Apparently the late 90's Aluminum LTI (trans am, firebird)...fits in very nice (with no hood mods even needed), and the weight doens't change the front to back weight distribution more than 1% from the stock 2.5L setup...which is real close to 50/50.

why would you do an LT swap when you can do an LS swap?

LS1 is old tech.

Go with either a LS6 which came in the C5 Z06's in the '02 to '04 models, or better yet a LS7 from the current C6 Z.
A low mileage LS6 can be had for bout 5K, and LS7 for about 9K. GM crate LS7 motor are about 14K.
For example, with a medium cam, exhaust, intake and a tune, I've dyno'ed 530rwhp with my LS7. Haven't touched the heads yet.
Both can be modded to add 100rwhp with heads/cam, and get you 28mph on the highway. All depends on your budget, and how much power's enough for you. (If there is such a thing).

please do Richie...I am sure the RMP boys can handle the SWAP itself...it has been done by the Renegade Hybrid guys many times. I know one of the other 944 that race in the GT Sprints with me did it...Ottawa guys I think...it was running some nice lower 1:30 times at Mosport.

tlaselva...ya I like the new stuff, but if I had $13,000 to spend on a SWAP (or just the motor for that matter)...I doubt I would be doing it with a 1988 944s.

picking up a $2-$5k engine out a 97/98 wrecked Firebird or Trans am is a different story...Renegade sell that parts for the swap itself for in and around $2,000 US.

Already done a $10,000 plus Subaru STI swap in a 2004 Impreza...been there done that!

From what i remember he had motor mounts made up used a vet 6 speed and custom drive shaft made to the stock rear end he did swap himself small block swaps are easy because of all the aftermarket ignition systems and fuel systems for small blocks

ya, apparently it is very easy to slip into a Porsche...and pretty easy to get 300 reliable HP without going crazy on turbos, boost, and expensive internals...run it stock all day long, racing or street!

A 1988 Turbo S or 1989 Turbo 944 will easily make 300rwhp with just a MAF conversion and new chip using stock internals and the stock K26/7 turbo.

Stroking the engine from 2.5 to 2.7 and upgrading the turbo to the K27/7 will get you to 400rwhp (with a few other tidbits). This is without running at ridiculously high boost. It is streetable and reliable.

Overall, it will be cheaper and with no fabrication. Also looks stock when you lift the hood, so no issues with insurability (ie. heavy modification, engine swap, etc.).
