View Full Version : S52 Swap - Is a header worth it?

I'm planning on a S52 swap for my 91 318is. The stock manifolds look like they would flow well.
I'm wondering if buying a header for it would be worth the money for the extra power (8 to 10hp) and weight savings.
I'm also concerned about issues fitting into a E30.

one reson why ppl. buy theys things is the clear the controll arm bushing in the rear and you wont need a treehouse racing controll arm bushing.
considering the cost off the said treehouse racing bushing at $190 us plus shipping or so and $160 for the header most ppl. buy the header
i did header and a treehouse racing bushing and i would always doit again in a S50 S52 m52 or m50 swap

By ebay headers. Dirt cheap now and are an upgrade. Should be under 200cad shipped to your door.

Would they fit in an E30 ok?

they fit fine but it is not plug and play you still need to weld the exhaust together as the flansh from the header brings evrything about 5cm more towards the passanger side (thats with the stock header and aftermarked one)and you loos some ground clearance, if you dont reroute the system and go sure to get also a m3 catalytic converter do not use the m20 one as that one is a bit small and a ceramic unit the m3 is a metalic one with more flow
Try to get the whole exhaust sytem from the E36 it fit's real nice with some work under a e30

I got ebay headers for 140$ shipped. They work mint, people have had them on their swap cars for years.
